Located ~10 minutes drive from Chicoutimi, the hotel is perfectly located. The views on the river are beautiful, and the overall landscaping and layout is splendid, with wooden stairs leading to rooms and buildings, a water feature, adirondack chairs and more. The room was also clean and well equipped, with plenty of hot water for the shower. However, there are two important things worth mentioning:
Limited privacy: We were staying in "La Suite", which is a nice room with an advertised private entrance and private patio. There is a private entrance, so no problem there. However, the large patio with BBQ, table and chairs is only semi-private. First, the pool, which is a shared amenity, can only be accessed through the room "private" patio. This means everytime other guests want to access the pool, they will walk through the patio. Doing so, they will have a direct view into "La Suite", as the large patio doors overlooking the patio and the view of the rivers are 100% see-through. The glass is not tinted in any way, so other guests will be able to have a full view of your room from the patio, or even from the pool area, if they are standing. There is also no clear sign mentioning the patio area is private, so it's easy for other guests to wander there unknowingly while exploring the property. Finally, the sound-proofing is also quite poor, and you will hear everything happeing in the nearby staircase / corridor. Despite all that, the room remains nice and comfortable - but if the privacy of the room is what matters most to you, I would recommend looking into something else.
Disappointing breakfast: From the pictures and the website, I was under the impression that the breakfast would be a nice homemade breakfast, served warm in the morning. However, the breakfast was given the night before. It included one pastry wrapped in plastic (i.e., not homemade or fresh), one muffin that was closer to a cake in taste and consistency than to a muffin, one store-bought box of juice, one small yogurt and one small apple. I would recommend avoiding the breakfast altogether - the food you will get at a bakery or supermarket in the city will be vastly...
Stayed 4 nights at Gite Du Haut Des Arbres. It was a great jump off point for things to do around Saguenay. Especially for the Baie Eternitie section of the Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay. Beautiful hiking there. Also, the Zoo Sauvage De St-Felicien, is a beautiful “zoo”. Some of the best habitats I’ve seen.
The place itself was immaculately clean, organized and had everything you needed. We stayed in the La Cache suite which was great with our own private side entrance. The property has much more potential in the warmer weather with decks and relax areas everywhere. But even in October we enjoyed the beautiful view of the Fjord. The rooms are (at least in our building, as there are two) are hotel like. So next door to each other. It wasn’t a problem, but you will hear your neighbours a bit. I would definitely recommend this place to stay!
The only suggestion/caution I would give is the English support. I was unable to get through to the office only until hours before our stay as I was arriving late. My suggestion would be to text the mobile listed and one of their team members who speaks excellent English can help. Emails and calls don’t seem to be answered. Otherwise when I was there we had excellent help and communication.
Thank you for providing an amazing stay for us to check...
Read moreI am sorry to have to give this place a 1 star rating but as an animal lover I was deeply distressed by the poor conditions they are keeping their chickens in. 5 chickens in a tiny cage have to climb over each other with no possibility to walk outside and stretch their legs. One poor little hen was obviously very ill. It was a horrific sight to say the least. But the smell of these poor creatures having to live in their own waste was also very disturbing. The whole pool area smells of chicken feases and relaxing is not really possible. |Having said that, if I hadn‘t been so distracted by the poor condition of these animals, I would have rated this place much higher. The room was very comfortable and everything was well thought through. I really liked the kitchen and the many different choices of making cafe. I was impressed that they even stocked green tee. I am sorry about the low rating, please get a bigger cage for those animals and provide an outside space for them and I will revise...
