We ended up leaving Hotel Sacacomie a full day early — which was heartbreaking, because we were looking forward to this stay so much. We are really not high-maintenance guests, but the fact that this hotel is rated 4 stars and charges this much per night makes no sense.
It's important to note that while they were polite, the reception clerk didn't even acknowledge the fact that we were abandoning our second night during checkout. Didn't ask why we were leaving, if everything was OK, etc. I found that exceedingly weird, and to me, it illustrated a total lack of care regarding retention/reputation/customer satisfaction.
Before explaining why we left, here are the pros: — Very nice view from the terrasse — Free water activities (kayak, canoe, etc)
And the cons: — Upon our arrival, the front desk clerk told us that we could purchase a package that included all of our dinners, breakfasts, and access to the spa for $199+tax. I confirmed multiple times that this price covered both myself and my partner for our two-night stay. It was only after purchasing the package (we were literally about to take the first bite of our dinner) that we were informed the deal was actually $199 PER NIGHT. So, twice as expensive. We were offered no adjustments aside from the ability to cancel the package (a simple comped drink to acknowledge the error would have sufficed), and we were charged the full cost of two four-course dinners, despite the fact that I told the waiter I'd only like to keep my soup and my main course instead of all 4 services. I don't necessarily blame him for serving all of the courses anyway — the whole thing was extremely confusing, rushed, and disorganized.
— Arguably our biggest issue was the lack of AC. We were actively sweating while eating in the dining room, and ultimately, our decision to not stay a 2nd night was sealed by the fact that my partner barely slept due to the temperature in our room. Despite the fact that we had multiple fans running, it was very uncomfortable. I understand not all hotels offer AC, but we were really surprised that a 4-star property did not have this essential summer amenity.
— I'll preface this next point by saying we are more than happy to pay for a nice meal. However, the food we ate here was absolutely not worth the price. While the four-course dinner for $60 was of passable value, we just... didn't enjoy it. À la carte, appetizers were $18 and mains were $36, and at that price point, we were expecting excellent food. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. We skipped the $35 breakfast the next morning under the assumption it would be nowhere near worth it.
— Additionally, there were only 3 menu options available for breakfast and dinner. That seemed very limited given that there are no other restaurants in the area, and the menu only changes every few days/every week.
— The room itself was cozy, but amenities were few (ex. It costs extra to "rent" a mini fridge, which seems crazy for what you're paying). The mattress was also hostel quality, it reminded us of being at summer camp. Finally, the communal balcony offered no privacy. Not sure if all rooms have this, but ours was shared with 3 other rooms.
For these reasons, we decided to leave. All in all, we wanted to love this place so badly, but we were left feeling amazingly...
Read moreStayed at the hotel Sacacomie for one night/ 2 days September 12-13 2019. To clarify some of the reviews from others, yes you are typically staying in a huge lodge, which is awesome by the way. It's rustic, and woodsy, and literally a gigantic cabin in the woods. So, that being said, if you are finicky and looking for 3 diamond accommodation, you will be disappointed and you should stick to a high a end resort in Fidji. While its true that rooms are a bit dated (prob back to late 90's early 00's, I must say that they are exceptionally well kept, clean, comfortable and cozy. There is no tv, which is a good thing nowadays because we are all too often glued to our iphones or ipads or wtv other form of media. You folks looked into staying at sacacomie for a nature getaway right?? So get out of your room, get off your social media, and go exploring in the hundreds of acres of lush forest that surrounds this beautiful place! Quit complaining that there is no tv in the room!! If you that much of an addict, the hotel does offer a tv/movie room for you. Now, back to the rooms; hotel provides a keurig machine and kcups for you, there are plenty of towels, extra bedding for cooler nights, a ceiling fan for warmer nights and for those who complained about the heat, open the patio doors for a change. There is a mosquito screen to keep the bugs out. You are in the mountains, it very rarely stays too hot to sleep at night without a/c people!! Ok, so the only negative point I would have to say about the accommodations would be the beds... Not as comfy as I would have expected, but not so big of deal.. Moving forward. I opted for the half pension, so 4 course dinner and breakfast buffet included. The dinner was ok... Not horrible, not great. Service was ok, could improve on this note*. The wine selection is good, with local and international selections, but a bit pricey.. The breakfast buffet was better than some all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean! Lots of variety here!! Good job!! This hotel offers lots of activities. The outdoor spa is very nice and clean and well kept. The hotel provides you with towels, robe, water bottles and locked lockers if you wish to place your valuables (which can come in handy if you have already checked out. You can use the installations and enjoy the surroundings until 4pm). The outdoor amenities are very well kept. The equipment is practically brand new, and there is quite a lot; enough for everyone! From canoes to snow shoes, seriously everything is almost new. The side by sides are new, the snowmobiles are new... Very nice. The lake is amazing. Clear water, visibility goes at least a few meters down!! The hiking trails are worth the walk, they offer stunning views and they too are well maintained and trails easily identifiable. In sum, this is a hidden jem of a place. The staff is courteous and friendly. I recommend this place to everyone (unless you do not enjoy being in nature or unable to appreciate the beauty that is found in the simplest of things!). As for me, I truly unwinded, relaxed and enjoyed my stay at Hotel Sacacomie and will for sure...
Read moreSacacomie is a place unto itself with facilities located in a setting so unique that it is hard to compare it to something else. It is worth seeing although I'd avoid visting in early spring (i.e. April - early May) provided you live somewhere which already has 4 seasons. Before I go into a more complete review, I need to mention that if you have limited mobility there are certain rooms that absolutely cannot work for you so make sure you advise them at time of booking. Having visited during March 2022, it is clear the pandemic has had an effect on the site. They seem to have fewer staff and restaurant services have been impacted by this. Booking details (re. included buffet breakfast) isn't accurate. Buffet breakfast has been replaced by an a la carte offering (3 options available) where you order 1 meal once and anything ordered at breakfast a 2nd time incurs an additional cost (i.e. not buffet at all). As well, the portions at breakfast are generous but I wouldnt say enormous ( Ill always wonder why expensive breakfast orders - $35+ per plate - dont load up on home fries, baked beans, eggs, toast, and other low-cost foods which dont impact the bottom line much but do create an impression of plenty when customers receive the plate ). Final note on breakfasts: you cant choose how you get your eggs beyond soft-boiled or scrambled (which I think relates to being understaffed in the kitchen). A remedy to all of this (while respecting COVID restrictions) would be to have a menu with breakfast items on it and to ask patrons which (& how much of) of the items they want on their plates and allow them to reorder. The solution obviously puts more strain on servive and the kitchen but would make the buffet breakfast
claim accurate. Be aware that the restaurant is expensive (which is justified for the adult dinner menu since everything must be transported in and that you're essentially a captive market once there) and that supply chain issues impact the availability of certain goods listed on the menu (e.g. beef didn
t exist during our stay). Also be aware that the menu may not change much from one day to the next, meaning a longer stay (3+ nights) may create a situation where meal variety becomes an issue. Kid fees - particularly dinners and accomodation costs - are dubious. Kids menu dinner options consist of breaded chicken pieces, burger, wings & fries or pasta and those meals cost far less than what patrons are billed for. As well, given that 2 adults can take a room with 2 beds, additional chages for accomodations are invented given that no additional space is occupied (although it is true that they may consume extra hot water when showering, so I supposed there's that). Hopefully the end of pandemic restrictions (re. occupancy % and food availability and service staff) will resolve some of the issues listed above while an increase in total revenue may help to drive down associated fees for kids. The setting is beautiful and the hotel itself is... Read more
