We camped for six nights along the water front in Riverside Campground. The sites in this area range from wide open to "some" trees along the water, to densely- treed spots on the inside of the loop. Many sites, including ours, are very very narrow and close to neighbour campers. Having beach right out our door would have been amazing had the campground and beach not been literally covered in red ants. Gazillions of the little biters!
Other campgrounds are available and some provide lake views as well. Not sure if they too have ants galore.
The park café and store has necessities and good food. The showers houses in the park are few and far between but were clean. We rented a pontoon boat from the Marina and had a great time cruising a small part of this giant lake. Saw pelicans, grebes, gulls, and cows in the lake :)
Finding the beach was an adventure but once we found it, it was a lovely place to hang out. There are actually two separate beaches. Water was clean. No amenities at the beaches except a bathroom/change house. The beach is on the west side of Hwy 4 about 2kms down. Well hiden and poorly-signed. There is also more lakeside camping over there but unserviced.
Be careful when booking to pay attention to the width of your site. We could easily hear our neighbours in their trailer at normal conversation tone. There is a fire ban on now but had we be able to build a fire we would have had to roll in our awning and not have our canopy over the picnic table.
Some great hiking spots in the park, a nice mini golf, and 18-hole...
Read moreI returned home safely after a truly frightening day. Early afternoon yesterday my partner and I decided to hike the Prairie Vista Trail. Once we reached the landmark indicating it’s transition to BF-50 we figured we would keep going back to the Goodwin building, not knowing that 50 from the name BF-50 stood for 50km.
A few hours in, we started to feel the heat and we were quickly running out of water. The heat was all of a sudden inescapable, as the hills had little shadow and wind was low that day. I began showing signs of heat exhaustion, and panic set in.
My partner ran up the hill to get service, and called the number for Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park. He was instructed to wet a shirt and wrap it around my neck to protect the main arteries and to make our way back to a designated meeting spot. From here, a side-by-side appeared, Griff and Preston immediately rushed to bring us water and began cooling us down. They safely transported us down the hills where a team received us. I would like to extend the biggest thanks to this team, Karrie and Trisha, to name a few, who came to our aid and executed a perfect response to our emergency.
Knowing that such a competent team works this park, especially evident on this day, makes us want to return despite the...
Read moreWe were here only for the day for a new experiment that the park was trying out. A Farmer's Market!
We brought along wooden and 3D printed items for sale to the
Saturday would have been a much better choice of days to hold such an event in the park, as since we were the first vendors to set up shop at the amphitheater, we sure encountered many more campers arriving at the park as we were departing!
We were located at the amphitheater at the Sagebrush Camp Loop. The weather was a scorcher, as it was 33 during the time we departed the park around 6 pm. This was our first experience inside the park. The grounds were cluttered with multiple tree branches, which ended up to be trip hazzards for both us and our camping customers. Sure, I get it that they like to keep the grounds as natural as possible, but the experience we encountered was pathetic, to say the least. I will include some of our photos of the day where you just might be able to see some of the clutter of debris in...
