Monashee Motel — Hotel in Sicamous

This hotel was the dirtiest place I have ever been to. Upon check in the room wasn't ready but we asked if we could put our bags in the room as we had activities to got to while they finished cleaning. We did not arrive back to the room till after midnight where we found the towels were dirty, the cupboards were covered in grimy filth. Behind the sink and on the mirror were dried on chunks of spit up toothpaste. I wiped the floor with a piece of toilet paper and it came up black. I tried to make the best of it as it was the middle of the night and all hotels were full on a long weekend so I started to brush my teeth and began gagging looking at the filth in the bathroom. At that point I could not stay there as it was making me sick to my stomach and i ended up sleeping in my car. In the morning I went to management, he made excuses that things just need to be painted and the dried spit on the walls was just dried paint. He offered to clean or give us another room. I declined as this was not just a missed dirty towel or hair left. I could not stay in a place that had such poor standards as this was clearly months of not being properly cleaned. Even with nowhere else to book I'd rather sleep in my car. He agreed to give me a full refund. When he realized I booked through Expedia he said I'd have to go through them for the refund. I did a claim through Expedia, when they contacted the hotel the manager refused to refund. I called the manager back and said he had lied to me, he said he did not lie but after speaking with the owner he changed his mind. If he needed to speak with the owner he should have done so first before telling me he would fully refund me. He then told me he would have the owner call me. I did not hear from the owner so that is when I wrote a review on Expedia. I called again to the hotel and this time he gave me the owners number. The owner would not give me an opportunity to speak, he was so mad that I had wrote a negative review, said I was a germophobe and that the manager never discussed a refund. After yelling at me for 2 minutes I asked if I could speak as I didn't interrupt what he had to say. He just kept talking over me berating me for leaving a review that I had to yell out "let me have a turn to speak.' He hung up on me and never gave me a chance to say two words. I had an absolute fantastic stay at the Monashee Motel! From the moment we arrived, we were met by the manager Aakash who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Check-in was smooth and I must say the staff were friendly, and every interaction throughout our stay was warm and professional. The room was spotless, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up. The bed was incredibly cozy, the linens fresh, and everything smelled clean. I was impressed by how well-maintained the property is quiet, safe, and clearly cared for with pride. What stood out most was the attention to detail. Fresh towels, Starbucks Nespresso coffee in each room, strong WiFi signal, big tv's, bidet spray attachment in the bathroom and even the small touches like extra outlets and good lighting made the stay extra convenient. The location is also perfect close to gas stations, and main routes, yet peaceful and relaxing once you’re on the property. I had no trouble getting a great night’s sleep. This motel truly exceeded my expectations. It offers the friendliness and comfort of a family-run place with the cleanliness and professionalism of a top-tier hotel. If I could do zero stars I would. This was the worst place I have ever been to. Their prices are incorrect on google (google said it's $130/night) they are $154/night. So we get there, the place looks ok. But we go to our room. The main walkway on the second floor seemed unsafe, like the boards were going soft. Walking into our room we were hit with a wave of heat from the day. The air conditioning didn't work well, took hours for it to make the room cool. Our room had no microwave. The internet was unusable. There was many regular outside bugs, like spiders and other flying bugs in the room with us. There was hardly any toilet paper. There was a Cheetos from a previous tenant on the floor just under the bed. They had notices regarding no smoking in the rooms, just outside the rooms or anywhere near windows that were not followed at all, (by neighbours) so no enforcement. Everything stunk like cigarettes.
