We recently stayed at Algonquin’s Edge and had high hopes for the resort based on the photos posted on the website. The area is beautiful, there is a breathtaking waterfall nearby and the lake is clean with gorgeous views.Watercraft is provided and is in great shape.Dry firewood is plentiful and free. The owner & his family are friendly and helpful. The cottage itself is where we had the problem.Upon arrival we were greeted and shown to our cottage. Our first impression was that the cottage had fallen into some disrepair over the last couple of years. The steps up to our front porch were broken & rotten through. There was a cement step up so we used that and had to constantly remind our kids to do the same. When we entered the cottage, it seemed pleasant and we were assured that it was “very clean”. As I was putting things away, I noticed that the glass top on the stove was broken with a long sharp glass edge protruding along the side. Some of the dishes in the were dirty from previous use (specifically forks and a white oval platter that was covered in a yellow sticky/greasy substance). The dishes were plentiful but well used. I entered the room with bunk beds and opened the blinds for light. The slats on the blinds were FILTHY- I tried to wipe them down as my son suffers severe allergies and asthma but they had not been cleaned in so long that they wouldn’t dust off with paper towel. The fan was broken and FILTHY.The room smelled overwhelmingly like mould although I could not find a source i did find mouldy cherry tomatoes under the bed.I attempted to use the 5-drawer wooden dresser and discovered that 3 of 5 knobs were missing, and that only one drawer opened, however the drawer was broken and wouldn’t shut. No big deal- I left my son’s clothes folded ontop and proceeded to put my daughter’s clothing in our dresser. I filled the drawers with our clothing, but when I got to the bottom drawer, I discovered several pairs of a previous occupant’s used men’s underwear. I shut the drawer and did not use it. The pillow on my son’s bed was a feather pillow, and due to asthma, I opted to switch it out with the extra pillows provided. These pillows had large yellow/brown stains on them and were unable to be used. Likewise, our bed had only 2 coverlets on it no comforter or duvet and one night when the temperature dropped to 9/10 degrees we were freezing and had no additional blankets. The smart TV was difficult to operate and there were no instructions given. After some back and forth exchange via text with the owner, he sent his nephew down to try to help. Between the two of us, we managed to get it working. The television in another cottage did not operate at all because it required an update that would not work. Luckily, those occupants had brought along their own fire stick. As it rained for 1.5 days of our trip, we did require use of the tv. Upon sitting on the living room’s futon, I discovered the back was broken and it was very uncomfortable. We were also unable to pull it out to use as a bed. While we were trying to determine what was wrong with it, we found Kleenexes and garbage from a previous occupant under the futon. The owner did send his nephew down to repair it, however at that point I said not to bother and that I just wanted them to be aware that the damage was present prior to our arrival. On the last night, while retrieving something from our car, I took quite a bad fall down the cement porch step. The porch light was also broken and we had to use flashlights outside of the cabin- a concern considering that we were in bear country. There is a rock at the base of the cement step and I twisted my ankle and fell when descending the step. My flashlight wasn’t enough to outline the rock and I lost my footing. There was also an incident where someone from the owner’s family was out mowing the lawn in his underwear, with our kids in full view. The cottage has great potential but needs immediate...
Read moreAlgonquins Edge Resort is the most wonderful and welcoming place I've ever personally stayed at, the cabins / domes are all incredibly beautiful. The amenities aren't even the highlight, as the owner (presumed) Ed (or Edward) is one of the kindest people I've ever had the privilege of meeting. As soon as we arrived he ran over to us with a smile and immediately greated and welcomed us, he truly does so much for the vila, it seems like he's the only worker but yet he's constantly around and available if you need help. He'll even build you a fire and light it for an extra 20$! Which was incredibly worth it just to chat with him, not to mention that the fire itself was perfectly crafted. Truly a gentleman and I imagine that everyone's stay is improved tenfold by Ed, I can't say enough about how wonderful of a person he is and just how vital he was to my friend and I's enjoyment of the resort. Truly one of the kindest and hardest working people I've ever met, there was this immediate level of comfort knowing that he was the host of this resort, and his fingerprints are truly all over it. Ed, if you're reading this, you've done the most wonderful job with the resort, and your hospitality is second to none. Thank you.
I had the luxury of staying in one of the newly built domes, and the layout is simply fantastic, having its own deck area and a separate building for the bathroom. All structures being perfectly made and comfortable, even the texture of the wood is perfect, you could run your fingers across it all without getting a single splinter. The domes themselves feel massive, incredibly spacious and with their high ceilings they're truly a marvel. The entire resort is wonderful kept and in an extremely convient location, close to trails and the east gate of Algonquin. The beach area is wonderful, a slide right into the water, lots of places to sit. The seating areas aren't numbered and that's perfect as it gives everyone an opportunity at a different view from the seating areas. I personally used atleast 4 or 5 different ones, all just as comfortable as the other. The lake is very clean and lovely to swim in, and the fact that free kayaks are available to take and use was incredibly fun. In general this resort has soooo much going for it, I was just continuesly impressed by everything. Even the layout is wonderful and there's a lovely little path right from the domes to the beach! Ed had even spoke of some future upgrades to the place so I'm sure it'll only improve, which is hard to imagine since in my mind, it was the perfect resort, and I had the most wonderfully perfect time there. I can't recommend it enough for anyone looking to spend time in Algonquin, it's also quite affordable! Especially for what you get. Besides somethings are simply priceless, and my time here most...
Read more100/10. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience - truly have 0 complaints/issues. I could write a whole chapter on how great this was. We actually didn’t have high hopes even though the pictures were beautiful because we had a bad experience with glamping before we knew about this resort but this place completely exceeded our expectations. The pictures are nice but - you HAVE to see this in person to truly see how stunning this resort is. The host(s) definitely put a lot of work into this and it shows. It was so peaceful and the resort itself was so beautiful. They had a mix of domes and cabins and the common area had lots to do such as pool, table tennis, cabanas and kayaking. We felt safe during our whole stay. The water views from the beach were stunning. We couldn’t have asked for a better host. The host, Ed is so hardworking (we saw him everyday doing something), very hospitable (always there when you need help) & professional. Truly a great person. He made sure we were comfortable and responded so quickly to any/all inquiries. He greeted us when we arrived and guided us to our dome and gave us a little tour. We had everything we needed - all you need to bring is your basic toiletries like clothes and food. They have electricity, running water (hot/cold - you’ll literally feel like you’re home as the water pressure was so good) and a kitchen with kitchenware for you to use, a fridge/freezer and a BBQ. There is a heater that doubles up as an AC unit so you will be cozy. The bed was comfy and the equipment/furniture and dome itself is modern and aesthetic. The dome was so clean when we arrived- even the washroom that was inside(loved this). This is the type of top quality you see in the city in hotels except you have beautiful views of the water and the woods. I did not expect this type of experience in nature but so happy we found it. We are definitely coming back and plan to make this our go-to glamping spot because it was that great of an experience from start to finish topped with amazing service. There’s a lot of privacy despite guests in domes or cabins near you. I’ve only read positive reviews and 5 star ratings for this place and can truly attest to the fact that it’s definitely all true. Thank you for the awesome experience - we will be back and definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a getaway. Thank you Ed...
