On Jan 4th, 2025, my daughter held her wedding reception at the Alt in St. John's and it could not have gone better.
The wedding had just under 120 guests, which was definitely the most they could accommodate. When we were looking for a location, the Alt was quickly a favorite as it was a great location downtown St. John's with an amazing view of the harbor both from the ballroom and many of the actual rooms.
As it was a winter wedding with the distinct possibility of bad weather, we wanted a venue that was centrally located, had parking and the ability for guests to get a room for the night if they desired. The Alt hot the bill perfectly with a bonus of inside parking.
The staff at the Alt were excellent to deal with and always delivered on their commitments, especially on the day of the wedding.
The ballroom is on the main floor off the lobby on the harbor side with wall to wall windows, so an excellent view and environment for our festivities. If it had been a summer wedding, I know the deck adjacent to the ballroom would have been an excellent addition and a great place for photos.
Catering for the wedding was all handled in-house by the hotels restaurant, Terra. Their was a fairly large selection of food options and a tasting day.
On the wedding day the food was excellent. My daughter chose to have 2 options available for guests (steak and chicken) and both were cooked perfect and let's be honest getting steaks for a crowd that size with out some being over or undercooked is not easy.
The meal service was great with everyone getting their food quickly and while it was hot.
As it turned out, the weather was excellent on the wedding day, even allowing for bride and groom pictures at Bannerman Park with no snow.
The venue included a room for the happy couple, which was great, and many of the guests took advantage of the hotel to stay overnight. The next morning, it was extremely wet and windy, so the underground parking was definitely appreciated.
If you have ever stayed at an Alt hotel in the past, you have a pretty good idea of what their rooms are like ... clean and modern. I have never had a bad stay at an Alt hotel, but I have to say the view of the Harbor from our room makes the St. John's Alt stands out. BTW, breakfast at the restaurant in the morning was worth staying the night.
I highly recommend the Alt in St. John's as a venue for your event or as a place to stay on...

Read moreLovely hotel in a good location. We are here for 5 days prior to a NL wedding at a different location. I am coming from Ontario where Covid restrictions such as wearing masks etc are still in place. To get into NL we either needed to be vaccinated or isolate and receive a negative test. This hotel and apparently all Atlantic hotels are choosing not to clean room to “protect” their staff. I would support this if they were doing anything else to protect their staff and guest but besides hand sanitizer around their are no protects. Staff don’t wear masks, their are no restrictions on how many people in an elevator. Coming up to my room in the elevator with mask on I had 2 guest and a cleaner ride with me. None had masks. Guests and staff are free to lounge around the lobby, bar and restaurant with no masks. The hotel deciding to no clean rooms, make beds, empty garbage etc is simply a cost saving measure by the hotel. They are charging full price but not providing the service guests pay for. I tried to discuss with the Manager Greg. He was rude and condescending. Suggesting I don’t take the pandemic seriously. I am vaccinated, I follow all safety recommendations, but for this hotel to decide the only thing they will do to protect staff and guest is to not clean rooms is outrageous. Again no restrictions on number of people in an elevator with out masks. Free to wonder around without masks but to keep everyone safe they won’t clean your room. Again I am here for 5 days. The managers rudeness only added to my disappointment at this hotel. I strongly suggest people book cheaper hotels or an Airbnb since you will be cleaning up after...
