I really struggled whether or not to give the Delta 3 or 4 stars and let me tell you why - there are a few things lacking, but I know the would be quick to fix them if brought to their attention - but in reading some of the previous reviews, it makes me wonder how long it has taken some of the changes to take place?
I arrived last Saturday for my stay, in the wee hours of the morning after an overnight flight with shoddy sleep. Thankfully our reservation was ready early and we were able to retire to bed for some much-needed rest before taking in the rest of the day. I was part of a large group, about 25-30 of which arrived at the same time. Fortunately, we were grouped in the same area of the hotel. Unfortunately a couple of employees decided to have a nice lengthy, loud chat outside our rooms for about 10 minutes first thing after we put our heads on the pillows. I reminded myself that they likely didn't know we were trying to sleep and I would have said something if it lasted a minute longer.
When fully conscious I noted some things about the hotel that were a bit askew. Whilst walking down the halls, half of the room numbers were one color and the other half were a different color and/or were just sitting on the floors outside the rooms. There was a sign directly outside the elevators that made mention of some renovations that the hotel was facing, but I am still unclear as to why the room numbers were sitting on the floor. In fact, ours fell off halfway through our visit. Was this shoddy workmanship? Either way it looked tacky. This was not nearly as vexing as the lack of ventilation fan in our bathroom. With four guests sharing a space, one would hope for something to clear the air of steam and other unmentionables. Perhaps this is something common to the East coast?
Another thing one might expect with four guests sharing a room is the provision of four face cloths. One thing I must make very clear is that housekeeping was fabulous at this location. After a day out I returned to the room and noticed that I forgot to remove the DND sign from the door and therefore the room was not made up. Housekeeping took the time and trouble to leave our room a voicemail, saying we should call if we needed anything. I'm sure if they knew we wanted more face cloths, they would have provided some - it just makes me wonder if there was a lack of communication from the front desk to them.
Our beds were comfortable and the lighting was plentiful. There were several options for charging stations. The Wi-fi worked just fine. The TV was MASSIVE but would benefit from a quick use guide. Both myself and my friend couldn't figure out how to get to the TV guide for ten full minutes. (Clicking GUIDE on the remote does nothing.) Mini fridges were huge.
The pool - I have friends who used the pool all 7 days of our stay, but for me, it wasn't worth my time. I was confused as to the location of the pool when I originally went to find it. I mentioned this in a quick online survey I filled out while signing onto the Internet.(I was impressed to say that the next time I went to use the pool, there was a handwritten sign on the door!) The change room was cluttered with shampoo bottles everywhere and a shower curtain had been torn off the hooks and was lying on the floor. The bathrooms were lacking toilet paper holders. (C'mon Delta - this is an easy fix!) The first evening I went to use the hot tub, I got in to water just slightly hotter than body temperature. Perhaps it was the large number of people that had been using it just prior to my visit. One friend reported it being too hot when she had tried it earlier. The dry sauna was out of order. I wonder how long it had been like that. The pool itself was fine, but if the hotel threw in a few beach balls or rings to play around with, it would be even better.
I am curious to see what the Delta will look like when it is done renovations. I saw no work being done during my visit, and it makes me wonder why.
Reception was always very pleasant...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Delta in St. John's, Newfoundland, and I must say, despite a few outdated elements, the experience was truly delightful.
From the moment I stepped into the hotel, I was greeted by a warm and friendly staff who ensured my check-in process was seamless. The lobby exuded an elegant charm, though I couldn't help but notice that the overall style of the rooms seemed a bit outdated. However, I soon realized that this minor drawback was overshadowed by the exceptional cleanliness throughout the hotel.
Upon entering my room, I was greeted by a spotless environment that made me feel instantly comfortable and at ease. The housekeeping staff should be commended for their meticulous attention to detail. Every corner was flawlessly clean, and the linens were fresh and inviting. It was evident that cleanliness was a top priority for the hotel, and it truly made a difference in my overall experience.
Although the room lacked a modern aesthetic, it possessed a certain charm and homely atmosphere that added to the overall appeal. The furniture may not have been the most contemporary, but it was comfortable and well-maintained. The amenities provided were of excellent quality, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
One aspect that truly stood out during my visit was the exceptional service offered by the hotel staff. They were attentive, courteous, and went above and beyond to meet my needs. Whether it was providing helpful recommendations for local attractions or promptly addressing any concerns I had, the staff's dedication to guest satisfaction was evident throughout my stay.
The hotel's location was another highlight. Situated in the heart of St. John's, it provided easy access to a myriad of attractions, restaurants, and vibrant nightlife. The breathtaking views of the city and harbor from certain rooms added an extra touch of magic to the overall experience.
While the room's style may have been a bit outdated, the remarkable cleanliness and impeccable service more than made up for it. If you're seeking a hotel that prioritizes cleanliness and offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, this establishment in St. John's is an excellent choice.
Overall, my stay at this hotel was an exceptional experience. Despite the room's outdated style, the remarkable cleanliness, top-notch service, and fantastic location made it an unforgettable visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a charming haven in the heart of St. John's,...

Lobby: bright clean. Staff were helpful and polite. decor for Christmas was beautiful. Location: core of St John's walking distance to most everything. That's it for the nice. Parking: What an irritating thing it was. It was across the street and not included in room fee. $10/night plus taxes. The first time that we used it the machine wouldn't except our pass. So we buzzed for help someone answered....we told the person we were at the gate and it wouldn't let us out. Then we waited. (FYI; in the position we were in, there was no backing up. ) The person who answered the buzzer didn't come back and we waited for a response...Finally we saw a caretaker and he used his pass to open the gate. When we came back we couldn't get back in through the other gate. Security was there this time and let us in. I went to the front desk and they keyed my pass again.
Room: Unimpressed for a King Room at "The Marriott " The only thing nice about it was the view The large window and view of the harbour was really nice. The room looked dated with an attempt at Reno. It was small compared to my own previous experiences. There was absolutely no decor, beige and white no colour, the box springs were visible with iron legs exposed. Not even a bed scarf. They could put a bedskirt on or boxed in the supports. There was no sofa or coffee table. There was a beige chair and desk chair. Even the closet was rickety. The room was cold and the thermostat was ineffective. We had to ask for maintenance to turn on the heat. There were cobwebs stuck to the stucco ceiling. Carpet was pulling away from trim in a few areas and also looked old and tired. The bathroom: also looks like a bad reno. 1 extended counter the length of oneside of the bathroom, small cracked sink in the middle, mold growing on the edge. I told them the next day and housekeeping went up brushed out the mold. Restaurant: The Pinnacle We didn't use it. Menu in room had very expensive prices.
Pool was warm, we enjoyed it. Do to COVID rules you have to book your time. However while we were there another couple came in that we didn't know. We were polite but in other hotels we have stayed people outside our bubble were not allowed in when you're there. Also, there was a towel left inside and someone's earring on the chair. So I don't think that they clean it in between bookings. Conclusion: I won't be staying there again. I have payed less for much more relaxed...
