We recently stayed at the Buckhorn Inn in South Baymouth as part of a four-day motorcycle trip, and it was hands-down one of the best group travel experiences we’ve ever had. I organized the trip for a group of friends, and we ended up booking the entire inn — and it was perfect from start to finish. From the moment I booked, Lorraine (the owner) was incredibly warm, trusting, and organized. She had everything prepared — room assignments, key codes, and even thoughtful extras. Knowing we were arriving on bikes and planning a BBQ, she stocked the fridge with condiments so we wouldn’t have to carry extra supplies. It’s rare to find that level of care and thoughtfulness. This place is a biker’s dream. They left towels for us to wipe off our bikes in the morning and gave us access to a hose and more towels so we could wash them if needed. They truly made us feel welcome, and you could tell they genuinely wanted us to enjoy every second of our stay. The staff were equally lovely — kind, gracious, and so accommodating. When we realized that everything in town had closed for the night, they didn’t hesitate — she offered us a case of beer from her own supply and let us buy it. That one gesture? It saved the night and made everything just a little more magical. The grounds are absolutely stunning. There’s a beautiful, massive gazebo in the back, and the cutest little greenhouse that adds a personal, charming touch to the entire property. You can feel the love and care poured into every corner. And let’s talk about the rooms — they’re completely renovated with a cozy, cottage feel. Spotlessly clean, fresh-smelling, and full of thoughtful touches: mending kits, quality toiletries, plush towels folded beautifully. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the decor had that warm, home-away-from-home charm. Everything was done with intention. The inn is also perfectly located — just a 3–5 minute ride to the Chi-Cheemaun ferry, which made our departure stress-free and seamless. We had a night full of laughter, dancing, music, and joy — and being surrounded by nature, we could be ourselves without worrying about bothering anyone. It felt like our place, just for us. And to top it all off, even though we didn’t see Lorraine at the inn itself, she drove out to the ferry dock the next morning just to meet us and say goodbye in person. That moment sealed the whole experience for us. It’s something we’ll never forget. We’re already planning our return — and next time, it’ll be for the full weekend. Buckhorn Inn isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place where memories are made, friendships are deepened, and hospitality is at its finest. Thank you, Lorraine and the entire team — we’ll absolutely be back. 🧡

TL;DR: Wonderful stay! Super friendly hospitality (with personalized local tips, garden-fresh cherry tomatoes, and flowers for our room), a gorgeous garden, and spacious, updated rooms with lots of thoughtful touches. A few tiny quirks (flies and some sound between rooms), but overall one of the most caring and comfortable motels we’ve ever stayed at. Highly recommend! ________________________________________ My partner and I stayed for the last 2 days (in early October), and it was absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with exceptional hospitality. One of the team members (the owner, Lorraine) gave us the warmest welcome, complete with insider tips on where to eat and what to explore on the island. She even handwrote notes onto a map, and sent us off with fresh cherry tomatoes from their own garden — such a thoughtful touch. Speaking of the garden: it’s stunning!!! Even in October, there were dahlias, gladiolas, marigolds, asters, hibiscus, and mums in bloom. They kindly let me pick a few flowers to brighten our room, which felt extra special. The room itself was spacious, recently updated, and very well equipped. We especially appreciated the deep bathtub, the cozy electric fireplace, and the kitchenette stocked with everything we needed — microwave, fridge, kettle, coffee maker, dishes, cutlery, even dish soap and cloths. The bathroom came with plenty of towels and a solid range of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, a massage bar, shower cap, and even a mini mending kit). Beyond that, the room had a queen bed, a pull-out couch, desk and chair, TV with cable, a ceiling fan, and air conditioning — really set up for comfort in any season. If I had to mention anything that was less than perfect, it would be that there were a few flies that found their way into the room (thankfully, a fly swatter was already provided), and the walls let through a bit of sound from the neighboring room. Both were very minor and didn’t affect our enjoyment at all. Overall, this is a rare motel where the genuine care and thoughtfulness of the hosts make the experience stand out. We'll be leaving feeling refreshed, cared for, and already talking about coming back again — maybe even as a birthday tradition. Highly recommend!

The Buckhorn is the most beautiful motel I have EVER stayed at. The details they have put into the design was exceptional. It has ruined me for any other motel I stay at in the future. After a long ride through rain and wind, the comfort offered was a fab sight. The fireplace to warm our bones and dry our gear was a welcome sight. We arrived on the island late in the day, and was greeted by the most beautiful human Laurie. I asked if there was any milk around I could buy for my tea in the morning. She said sure, wait a minute, and came back with a mason jar of milk from her own kitchen. The next morning we asked her where to grab some breakfast, and suggestions of places to visit first. She gave us a map and marked places she thought we should check out and told us of a restaurant very close by called The Saucy Apple. We had the BEST breakfast I have EVER had. I kid you not. Every morning I would enjoy my tea in the backyard in a serine space. It was incredibly beautiful and relaxing. If we wouldn’t have been charged a cancellation fee of the next two places we stayed at, we would most definitely would have stayed the entire trip at The Buckhorn. Definitely the best place in the island to stay. You won’t be disappointed. I only took a video of the room and Google won’t let me post a video but these pics show the outside property. Trust me, this is THE place to stay on Manitoulin Island.
