In response to YOUR response, I didn’t see any clear indication of check in options and the person clearing the gate appeared to have had a self check in, in my opinion. The turn was made without damaging anything at all. The cornering was just fine. I wouldn’t want damage to property or our rig. So that was a silly thing to say. I assume your septic is still functioning? There was no rudeness on my part. I was taken aback by your approach. So I ignored your rudeness. One gets more flies with honey! I have stayed here in the past several times over the years and showed up around 6pm the other night. There was a closed sign hanging outside. On a Friday night. Why would one look further than this. Their business hours appeared to be from 10-5. Which sounded strange so perhaps that was the store. Clearly some confusion. We didn’t have a reservation and when we drove up there was no sign of life. I’d seen a fellow RV’r pass the gate with paperwork in his hand. I drove up to the gate realizing they’re closed at 6-6:30 pm and the gate wouldn’t lift. There were no obvious signs or messages stating to call after hours. So, I started carefully backing up and there is a turn around spot right in front which is used for dumping. Their sewer dump station is on an elevated road for rigs to do their business there. Having been there before. I knew this was possible. Suddenly a crazy “Karen” type came out and was asking indecipherable questions. There had been no indication anyone was there. I heard her saying “what are you doing” and anyone could clearly see that I was turning our rig around to leave. Yet she was wildly yelling and flailing her arms about with no sense! She was really ignorant. She might have considered asking if she could help in some way but she was quite ignorant. Quite rude. Screaming that she didn’t have any camp sites left. All the more reason for us to leave … just a weird, completely unprofessional interaction. Like we were already leaving. This all took place in place in 3-4 minutes.
But be “Karen” aware of whatever the heck she may do or say. Who knows. Very likely will not stop there next time. Better to go along further, less than 30 minutes west there are three other RV parks. You won’t “inconvenience” them by trying to give them some business. That certainly seemed to be the case that we’d seriously inconvenienced this woman by stopping in to stay the night with our rig. And trying to carefully leave. Crazy of us. I read the review of the Asian lady and the freak out “lady” given the campers tried to check out the park briefly before opening. While waiting to check in. Door bell or not. Are people to “guess” they should ring when the signs clearly state they are not open until 10? I totally get their point. Thien, I get what you are saying about her. Calling police? Ridiculous! The angry, ignorant woman we interacted with was on the verge of hostile. And we were only there 3-4 minutes lol! Crazy town! Ignorant lady that yells at people, please check your camera recordings and you’d see your behaviour is quite unacceptable. Certainly won’t promote good will and desire to return. Must have far too much business that you can afford to act in this manner. Perhaps asking a question in a polite, civil manner and you wouldn’t get the reaction from others.
This is from a repeat customer from the many years of going back and forth. Stayed there 4-5 times in the past.
Furthermore, another person posted a complaint around the additional booking fee of $4 while they were physically in the office. A fee which is normally charged when booking online. I have never seen or paid this when attending a check in physically, in person. Weird. But whatever. To each their own. Things seem to have changed here. Used to be a friendly, convenient place to stay. Maybe we caught her on a bad day. But man. Sure left enough of an impression that I felt compelled to write this message!!! There would be no reason for me to write something like this if it weren’t for customer service issue....
Read moreWhat can I say Serpent River Campground has definitely become a second home to my family and I. I remember the first time my Aunt told me about this place they had come for a few days to fish and we just happen to be off on holiday and literally two days later we joined them for the first time. Our youngest was just 3 months old at the time and when we arrived we fell in love. Every year since then my family and I come back same month same time every year with our extended family it's become our tradition family reunion at our fave campground Serpent River!!! Kayla and Jay are wonderful, kind, understanding, respectful and always willing to help and go above and beyond for your needs. Located in the office is a little store and they have a good selection of different items you may need for those I forgot moments as well as firewood, Ice, Ice cream and a few grocery items. Definitely pick up a Serpent River Campground Sweater if ever you get the chance to stay at this gem! They're warm and comes in a few different colors:) Washrooms and showers are always clean and is located beside the office and there's a laundry room:) Pool area is great, clean and plenty of chairs to lounge around and get a tan. A little park for the kids and if you want to shoot hoop they have that too. Canoe and Kayak rental is available and is a great way to explore the serpent river! The cabins are very clean and has electricity. (You do need to bring your own pillows and linen) There are three cabins after the train tracks by the river which are just magical and a few spots for RV and Tent rentals. If you're lucky a train just might come by toot it's horn and wave hello the kids absolutely love it! Up front and near the office are two more cabins and plenty more spaces to rent for RV. There are campers who have their RV's set up permanently here between the office and train tracks and call this place their home during the summer months so please be respectful and also respect the speed limit of 10 km while on the park grounds. I just want to say if ever you get a chance to visit this gem stay a while! It truly is an amazing place and community especially if you want peace, quiet and relaxation this place is for you. It's definitely not like other campgrounds in a very good way! My youngest is now 5 and every year my kids can't wait to come to their favorite place to spend time with their aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins! Thank you Serpent River Campground really from my heart for giving my family a place we can call home and a place where we can make memories for many years...
Read moreThe park was easy to find. It is located right beside highway 17 just east of the little town of Spragge. There is pavement all the way until you arrive at the park. The interior roads are gravel and big rig friendly. Signage is adequate. Check in was efficient and friendly. The rules are fairly basic.
Our site, B1, was a pull through that was just long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp, and water only) were to the left side. Distancing is fair for a rural park. Most sites had a vegetation privacy barrier. Each site has a table and a fire pit. Our site was flat and even. Overall the park was well manicured. Transient campers are parked close to the front thus some highway noise is present. Seasonal guests, and there are a lot, are farther back towards the river.
There is NO park included wifi or cable TV. We did not find any OTA TV. Satellite might be difficult because of the trees if you don’t have a portable dish. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them clean. There is a playground for children and it appears there are Canoe Rentals available by the river.
There are no restaurants or stores (other than the very small one at the campground office) within easy walking distance but 18 Km away it the town of Elliot Lake or 26 Km to Blind River where you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be very over priced because of the very limited services available as an overnighter. We paid $62.14 (inc tax) per night and we feel we received poor value. This is a $40.00 park. Having said that, the competition are charging similar prices. It is obvious to us that their business plan is to cater to their seasonal guests and we transients are a bother, thus, charge the heck out of us so we stay away. We will...
