Tent camped at Blue Lake PP for my first time during the dates of July 4-7, 2024. The campground is large and has lots of electric sites for RVs and trailers but not as many basic sites for tents. Some sites had more privacy than others but all of the sites were nicely treed.
Pros: Blue Lake is beautiful and clear and great for swimming. It has a soft sandy bottom and was shallow for a ways out before getting deeper. Some pretty looking trails in the park (though the mosquitoes were too vicious to enjoy them unfortunately). Modern shower building and the showers are free! Water pressure was low but it was nice to feel clean after applying sunscreen and bug spray all day. Super dry firewood at the park office was great for having raging fires in the evening. Only $10.50 a bag. Free bags of ice at the park office for the cooler! The sunsets from the beach were so pretty!
Cons: Some of the modern washroom buildings were out of order and locked with no explanation as to why. Beach could get pretty busy and was very kid-friendly with lots of play structures. Not the place if you’re looking for peace and quiet. Outhouses were old and smelly. On the plus side, they did have a small sink and soap and a solar light for going in the dark.
I’d like to revisit the park in the spring or fall before/after the bugs get so bad in order to enjoy more of the...
Read moreFirst timer at this location. Found the entry driveway and access roads to the sites super narrow with not enough pulloffs to pass other vehicles. Especially when pulling a fair size RV trailer. The staff at the gate was friendly enough but didn't provide any direction to sites. For example, our camp site number was 204. However, each block of sites is distinguished by a letter and then the sites are in those blocks. However, your entry slip just tells you the site number and not the letter so we drove around for 20 min before I found a park ranger to ask. Over all the amenities are plentiful and well maintained with water station, 15A/30A sites, washrooms, showers and garbage and recycling. The fish cleaning house is excellent and cleaned often. The beach is long and wraps around the park shore and is as nice as any destination beach with soft sand. Overall a nice park, and will stay here again. Now that I have knowledge about the park, I'll make different arrangements for a different...
Read moreWe recently went to Blue Lake, and the only big complaint I have is that none of the showers were working until the last day we had to leave. At the start of our visit there was only one flushable toilet, but quickly it was out of order. The rest of the flushable toilets were opened two days before we were leaving. Unfortunately, there was not enough water pressure and again non-usable. We were there last year, and again all flushable toilets were out of order. I know many campers complained about this issue. Oh, and we didn't have any water one day for about 5 hours. We did bring our own water. The latrines were also filling up to the top. It seemed unsanitary. Needless to say it was disappointing.
If you are going to offer these types of services even at the time of booking, please ensure they are working. The facilities could use a major upgrade.
On the positive side, the lake...
