We stayed at Racoon Lake in Algonquin park. Site 137 (fri, sat, sun and mon). All the sites were crammed together, and our site was on a decline with tons of large in ground rocks, which made tent placement extremely tricky and limited. We set up, and were telling stories around the fire, having a good laugh when the park warden rolled up and issued us a warning for the noise... We were just talking, not yelling or carrying on, talking. Then at 2:30am first night, the same warden woke us up for "violations" which consisted of our bug spray and our dish soap. He issued us our "last and final" warning, and threatened a $150 fine. So the next two days and nights felt like we were walking on egg shells, which for a camping trip to relax, wasn't relaxing at all. He drove slowly past our site every night shining his flashlight across it, looking for any excuse to fine us and kick us out. Every morning I was woken at 4am because of children screaming and running down the road or babies crying for hours. It was a tough few days, and after feeling like we were targeted by the park warden, we won't be back and will urge other campers to avoid here also. Especially on a long weekend. Only perk was the small lake, fishing and the sunsets.

Site 157 , 2 nights Raccoon lake is very peaceful, private. Our campsite was spacious, lake was very accessible a steep trek downhill 5ft shore. I wouldn't recommend to swim at raccon lake, water was stagnant and i saw a lot of mosquitoes on the surface, water is very clear but you can see the dirty lakebed. We also had cell service, toilets were close by but we didn't use them, rock lake comfort stations are awesome. There are hot showers, flush toilets and power socket to charge your phone. It was a short drive. Fire ban in place after 14th August 5pm. We got there one night early so we did have a nice barbecue. You can use propane stove, just no open fires. We didn't really use the raccoon lake beach. It does get very cold at night bring warm stuff. We underestimated the cold and slept in our car on second night. It was 11 degrees in the tent. Booth rock trail is very close. A challenging and rewarding hike. We finished the hike in about 3 hours. Nearest town is Whitney 20 mins drive east. They have grocery stores, pharmacy, restaurant, gas station. Didn't see any wildlife though.

After months of planning and lots of difficulties to book this place was a huge disappointment. A very small camping with small camp sites and absolutely no privacy! The sites are really a joke... The showers and normal washrooms are a kilometer away but easily reachable by car. The worst part was the extremely unfriendly and annoying ranger (I believe with a last name Logan) that considered a fairly quiet talk as a reason to give an excessive noise ticket just because people on other sites were sleeping and that at 11pm!!! He practically ruined the already lame experience from this very poorly designed camp grounds. The worst experience in our 30+ campaig trips. Fortunately he was off after 2 nights. The lake is beautiful but there seems to have some sort of microclimate as it was gloomy, fairly cold, and rainy in its area for all 5 days but getting quite better once we would drive out. Bottom line - never again...

We arrived on a Tuesday and were warned that a few days earlier a bear with 2 cubs had been sighted in our camping area (actually 2 site over from ours). We had site 159 and were pleased with it. Good view of the lake and as the previous review stated no highway noise which was nice. We have a tent and shelter and while our tent was on flat ground there was a slight slope where we had to put our shelter which caused some minor difficulties. Our section of the campsite this seems to have been common, a small flat area with the rest having some slopes to it. Privacy was not the greatest but overall not bad where we were. Vaul toilets were nearby and for showers Rock Lake was not to far away.||||The first few nights the park wardens came around warning us of the bear situation so that caused us to ensure all cooking materials that we normally would have left out were stored in our vehicle. On the first night my girlfriend spotted several deer mice around our campsite, what we didn't know until the following morning was that they had actually gone into my car and had eaten some sunflower seeds, waffle cones, and chips that we had sitting in the vehicle. They made a nice mess. A few days later talked to a couple with a trailer and they had the same issue happen to them. So suggest you keep all food in plastic containers if you go.||||The second night heard wolves in the distance for about half an hour. That was a treat as the public howl was cancelled.. Our hiking excursions were good but we noticed that all the squirrels were agitated whenever we came around. I have never encountered so many angry squirrels before. It felt like it was angry squirrel week at Alqonguin.||||On our last night the deer mice returned and as we were eating our smores waffle cones one had the audacity to jump into my girlfriends lap. I must say to the park staff, getting screamed at by squirrels, and having mice getting fresh with my girlfriend, you may want to talk to your critters about proper customer relations ;) ||||The weather was good, cool but windy at times. Coon Lake is a nice, quiet campsite with lots of small wildlife to make things interesting, will definitely look at returning to this...

This was my first time camping in Algonquin and I really enjoyed my stay. We were there for the Labour Day Long Weekend, so the entire park was booked. Still this was a very quiet campground, away from the Hwy 60 road noise and also quiet because it is relatively small, on a very small lake with only a small beach, and the sites are not electrical. This suited our needs just perfectly. On Saturday we drove the 5 mins to Rock Lake and did the Booth Rock hiking trail, which was great. On Sunday we did part of the same trail again and found a secluded beach to spend the day on. It was perfect.||||At night the atmosphere at the campsite was great, as the darkness provides privacy and our neighbours were not noisy. During the day, however, there is little to no privacy on these sites and we could definitely hear noise from the other campers in the mornings (we did not get up until about 9:30).||||It was a great trip and the campsite suited our needs. The only thing that could have been improved was the privacy of our site 145. It is right between two roads which form a loop so it was "high traffic" site...
