L'Escale Hotel Suites — Hotel in Val-d'Or

Skidooers, this is not the best location. Also, if they tell you there’s heated skidoo parking to thaw your machine (as they did with us when we booked a few days ago, and is advertised on the website), it’s not true. We were super disappointed. We only booked a week ago and now they tell us the garage is full.. of what i have no idea, but its not skidoos as there are none here! Breakfast is included but it’s governed by a warden and it took us forever to eat. There was no “help yourself option”. The free breakfast was mediocre at best , with a late start of 7:30- way too take if you need an early start. We didnt start out trip till 9:30am! Worst part of our experience though? They got our reservation wrong! We actually have to pack up and go to another hotel for one night. Yes, i should have checked the email when i reserved, but this has never happened so i was relaxed about it. Apparently there are hotel upgrades but nothing was offered to keep our business. Sadly, we wont stay here again. All our friends are at hotel Forestel (better access to the trails) but we came here. Lastly, as we were packing up to leave, i found someone else’s toque on the floor- the room could not have been vacuumed well or it would have been...

Nice place. I wasn't sure what to expect in Val D'Or, but was pleasantly surprised. I travel a lot and this was one of the cleanest (if not THE cleanest) hotel I've been to.

The staff was welcoming and discrete. No complaints here!

The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and, as I mentioned, so clean!

Breakfast is... well a quick place to stop and pick something up. There is nothing warm - other than the coffee and toast. If you have time, I recommend going a few streets over the Bennedictine instead. Real food. Breakfast was also VERY busy on the Sunday morning we were there.

We ate supper at the restaurant in the hotel and it was delicious. Nice big glasses of wine too. The decor and feeling of the restaurant was warm, cozy, and elegant. Staff was so kind.

Beware! They charged us the tourist tax on top of our meal on our final bill which is a no no. We only found out later. Check your bills. The tourist tax should only apply to the price of the room.

Over 40 years of staying in hotels in 10 provinces, 3 territories, the U.S. and Europe, I have never found a hotel that exceeds this one. Maintained at an exceptional level. Clean as a whistle. Fluently Bilingual !! Actually Trilingual in some cases. Good Location. The outside is as pristine as the inside. Plenty of parking for large vehicles.
