We camped (We reserved site #41) on the weekend of 2 June, 2017. We were 7: 5 adults, 1 teen and a 10 year old - in 3 tents. Our site was the perfect size for us. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived, a small pile of stones at hand so we could build our own fire ring where we wished, a picnic table (in great condition) and no trash laying about from previous campers.
We stayed from Friday early afternoon to Sunday at check-out time. We left for awhile Saturday morning and when we returned ALL our belongings were where we left them- undisturbed - except for our small day's garbage bag which a bird got into (our fault for leaving it there when we left). We drove, later the same day, to Juan de Fuca Provincial Park and "did" the Botany Bay - Botanical Beach Loop hike. Again, upon our return, our site was intact and the belongings we left behind were undisturbed (we left no garbage bag this time!) .
There were a few dogs about- every one was accompanied by their person, and posed no problem at all (not even barking at night).
The Staff we encountered were friendly, welcoming and polite; we joked with them and shared a couple of laughs. Out of respect for their land, we asked could we set off a small rocket on the beach (on Saturday) and were given leave. Alas- Saturday proved too windy so we did not.
There was water available (though we had brought our own just in case) - it was just a short walk away.
When we arrived, the pit toilet nearest our site was very clean and DID NOT smell. I saw, on 3 separate occasions, a cleaning detail arrive, clean it and replenish supplies (as required). I am picky and was impressed.
It was a lovely spot, we had a most enjoyable time and we will definitely camp there again and gladly recommend WITHOUT HESITATION Pacheedaht Campground to our...
Read moreIf you want basic/rustic this is an amazing place! The sound of the waves crashing on the shore reminds us how powerful nature is. Fun beach combing with all the driftwood that washes ashore. It can be cool, windy, foggy and damp even in the height of summer so bring warm clothing. Some improvements have been made by the Pacheedaht First Nations people whose land the campground is on. The road through the campground has been raised and levelled so no more ruts! Unfortunately, the actual sites were not also raised to accommodate and it was difficult getting our trailer in and out without nearly burying the stabilizer jacks. (Looks like this is more of an issue with just a few sites.) Some site numbers have been changed which we didn't realize until we got there and found we did not get the site we we booked. Our site hadn't been cleaned either (why can't people take their garbage to the bins anyway?) Out houses have hand freshener. A brand new office/store/shower building is under construction. Not aware of completion date but likely 2018. Long over due. Word is several of the waterfront sites on the north side camp ground will be divided over the winter. Hopefully a new site map will be posted. Rates are more expensive this year at $30 for unserviced sites and $35 for waterfront unserviced. Don't know about serviced sites. Improvements justify the increase. Bring long extension cords if using power and ditto for water. No sewer/sani. I'd like to see the sites be better tended and levelled so no one trips but other than that things seem to be going in the right direction here. The Pacheedaht people should be very proud of this beautiful place! We have friends who have been coming here for 30 years. It's not hard to...
Read moreBeautiful location but by far the worst campsite I've ever stayed at. If you show up in person signs say head to the admin office, then the admin office just tells you to go online to reserve, after booking online we asked if they had a campground map and their response was "go online" while they had a site map on the counter in front of them. The online reservation system is creating chaos, spots are being double booked, or people are just staying at random sites they didnt book and no one is checking that the right people are at the right spots. We payed over 50$ the first night for a spot that was listed as a beach front spot, turns out it was no where near the ocean, the campsite didn't have a fire pit or a picnic table like it listed online, they had recently dumped a massive pile of sand all over the spot so one car got stuck in the deep sand that filled the campsite. The second night we booked a different spot, site #2 but theres no #2 sign anywhere, we find whats apparently site #2 and other people are already camping there, the admin office was basically no help and ended up saying oh spot #1 and spot #2 are kinda just shared spots, this spot was 60$ a night, supposed to have water, electricity, a picnic table and fire pit, it had none of that and the only hookups were already being used by the people in spot #1 so spot #2 has nothing I guess, and neither spots had numbers posted infront of them. Very disorganized place and the people running it simply do not care at all. Having bathrooms is a nice perk but not when they are dirty, missing handsoap, paper towel and toilet paper the whole time, I'd rather pee in the woods. I would never stay here again, the beach is beautiful and worth checking out but the campsite is not...
