Well.. we will never be going to Martock again. $60 to rent gear and take my 22 month old on the bunny hill only. It would have been $80 to go up the chair, but she's not there yet. When the lady told me the total, I was caught off guard, but obliged and payed the fee. After thinking about the price a bit more, I returned to the counter to ask the lady if that was the correct price, or was there a combo package, or something to make things a bit cheaper. I'm not wrong, am I? Anyways, when she said that was the correct price, I asked if I could speak with a manger.
I was professional, polite, and kind when inquiring about this, and did not change that through the entirety of the conversation. He claimed that it costs a lot of money to make snow and run a ski hill, especially with the season we've had (I know this, I've had many conversations with staff from various hills through my 20+ years of skiing). All while avoiding eye contact with me, and insinuating I'm wrong, he proceeded to tell me they are providing some of the best conditions for skiing in the province, and that they have the best prices in the country, especially for a seasons pass at $115 for children 5 and under. He also told me he was very familiar with Wentworth's pricing, and that he stands by the prices they've set.
Here's the issue with showing up at Martock for a day of rentals and lift pass for a child this young. Martock's pricing classes her in an age category of 0-15years. Wentworth breaks theirs down from 0-5, 6-11, etc... For my daughter, it's $30 at Wentworth for rentals and a lift pass (for the entire hill!) They provide equally good conditions, and grooming, if not better, and they have a place that creates a great atmosphere and environment. It's a bit further of a drive, maybe 15-20min, but the extra cost in fuel is a fraction of the amount, than to...
Read moreI learned to ski at Martock when I brought my kids to learn so it’s been about 15 years. Martock gets typical Nova Scotia weather with ups and downs so they make a lot of their snow to cover the warmer periods. Fabulous hill for learning and building confidence. They have a kiddie hill and magic carpet for easy assents. They also have a T bar and 4 seat chair lift. Group lessons and private lessons are reasonably priced especially compared to larger hills. Martock is very skilled at building the terrain park and half pipe each year... not my level but my sons and many others enjoy it. Martock has kids’ group lessons on Saturdays and Sundays at 9am or 1:00pm for 2 hours. The night skiing is fabulous at Martock - hill is lit and open until 9:00pm. There is a restaurant that serves fries, club sandwiches etc and there is a lounge and Beavertails counter. The lodge was renovated a couple of winters ago and now has two large areas to eat a picnic lunch or have a rest. There are outdoor seating areas as well. Check their website for weekend BBQ fundraisers... delicious local sausages usually and reasonably priced... proceeds usually for Race clubs...
Read moreTerrible terrible terrible experience. My friend and I bought passes for the never ever day event for this Hill, prior to purchasing we both on different occasions spoke to separate employees confirming that we would be arriving later in the day and both timea the employees confirmed that it wouldn't be a problem and we would be able to participate in this event. On the day of, before heading over we called again and this time their manager said that the event was in the morning and that they would not honor this passes. This is an absolute scam! The level of customer service is completely unacceptable given that we had double confirmed our itenary with them. Ski martock do yourself a favor and reevaluate your staffing choice as obviously they are dishonest, and ignorant, and completely full of themselves. If this is the quality of service you provide than you will not stay in...
