We had two nights' stay on our road trip to Tuk and back this past month. We've stayed here previously so knew what to expect. The check-in is 4pm. Not one minute earlier. :) There is an incredible panoramic view of the plains from almost every window in the bar/lounge area. Board and card games are available. The building itself has an interesting history and many of the original features have been maintained. A wide mix of travelers, Government workers, truckers, hunters and more pass through. Prices are high as you'd expect with what it takes to actually get food and fresh produce to the location. On the days we stayed, we had the option of soup/sandwich combos ($10) or the buffet and salad bar ($42). Drinks were extra. There was a decent variety but also a theme each night - we got lucky and were there for the turkey dinner which I loved. (photos) The 'house dogs' are chill - they will try for skritches and generally will cruise by without being obnoxious. The rooms are efficient. We had 2 double beds which is apparently standard. We joked with the young man checking us in that we had booked the 'honeymoon suite' and he said, "they're ALL honeymoon suites!". Fans were supplied, but air con would've been a dream in the unseasonably hot week we came through. The hotel is not fancy, nor is it intended to be. It's efficient and has a history. The pricing is what it is. We book months ahead of time due to the camp contracts they have and time of year we come through. Their gas prices are on par with Inuvik but Fort McPherson, a bit further North, was slightly cheaper. (if the station is open) We didn't chance it.

Nestled atop a mountain ridge, this hotel has all the amenities needed after a long and often arduous road trip up the Dempster Hwy. There are rooms and camping with hot showers, a restaurant and bar/lounge with all the expected fanfare of the great white north (think stuffed caribou, moose, and bear skins, and an abundance of historical photographs), there is a pool table and giant cribbage board, and an upright piano. The staff is very helpful and friendly, as are the adorable hotel doggies. There is gasoline, diesel, and a mechanic available. The wi-fi is satellite, so don’t expect city speeds. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are warm, though there is a few things here and there that need updating or replacing. This is the only place available until far into the Northwest Territories so it’s best to appreciate it for what it is :)

Eagle Plains Hotel. An iconic stop along the Dempster. They let you shower for free if you buy fuel here, which you will be doing, because getting up the Seven Mile Hill to reach this place takes quite a lot of it. This place is a necessary stop along the highway. Get out here and enjoy the views. The hotel sits at the top of a huge valley, with a gorgeous mountain range lining the horizon at the other side. Inside there is a nice little restaurant and a bar. I didn't order much, but the service was really friendly. They seem to work pretty hard here. Also, there were lots of really chill dogs hanging around the place. Not sure whose they were, but they didn't bother anyone.

Short staffed, difficult for staff to deal with volume of people coming through but they did awesome. Since Covid we find the hotel and restaurant industry suffering with lack of skilled or people willing to work. The young lady working the reservations, also works the bar, takes order and serves for the restaurant. Super skilled and worked like the energizer bunny non-stop.||The motel looks like it is out of the 60s, decor old but a welcomed rest stop while traveling The Dempster Hwy. Camping in the rough also available here behind hotel. Beds comfortable. Many truckers stay here so it fills fast. Be sure to reserve your room in advance. ||Hotel and restaurant are very expensive but with no other options on Route you pay. Be sure to pack alot of non perishables, snacks and beverages for this journey. In Inuvik a small watermelon cost $22.50 a case of pop $20 and a bag of mixed nuts $35.||We stayed one night on the way up to The Arctic Ocean and one on the way back down The Dempster to Dawson City.||Thankfully we didn't blow a tire until we were near the end unlike 2 ladies we met who were stuck 5 nights waiting on replacement tires who were running out of money. We were stuck 8 days in Dawson City but at least we were able to get back to our trailer and that location offered activities, food and...
