The hotel looks very nice inside. Rooms have laminate flooring - a definite plus! Overall facilities are very modern and clean. One problem is the design of the bathroom lights. It is impossible to turn a light in the toilet it shower without turning lights in half the room. This is a problem when I've lesson needs to get up and shower, while the other person is still sleeping.||Breakfast is well laid out, good balance between Chinese and western flavours. Cold cuts station is a bit boring, and the pancake/waffles station is missing whip cream. ||The main reason, however, why I gave this review 3 stars is the hot spring resort. This is the hotel's main advertised feature, and yet it suffers from a couple of major problems. ||1. I had to pay extra for using outdoor pools! And not a small amount - approx. $50 per adult with no in and out privileges. Considering the overall size and the limited features of the facility - definitely not worth it.||2. As I mentioned, there were no in and out privileges, and the designated restaurant attached to the hit spring area was poor and expensive. So people were sneaking in did delivery all the time, resulting in news and flies around the sitting areas, and even closer to the pools.||An additional observation: The hotel is billed as a resort, and therefore, does not have a lounge. I find it strange as there is very little resorty about it, and a JW I stayed at in Sanya was much closer to that definition and had a lounge. I say this because I consider access to the lounge an important benefit of my elite membership. Without any meaningful alternative I find the value of my membership reduced.||Generally speaking, I find international hotels in China becoming less and less international. This particular Marriott is a good example...
Read moreUnfortunately we had an awful stay... we were traveling as a family: my husband, myself, and our 7-month old baby. The first room we were given smelled badly of cigarette smoke. I laid my baby down on the bed to change her and the smell got in her clothes and hair from the bed! I quickly attempted to call reception and change rooms -- however, the wait on the phone took almost 10 minutes! I have never encountered such long waits to call reception. This wait time was consistent throughout our stay, and happened at all hours - morning, noon, or night.
We met up with friends at the hotel and quickly found the food options to be extremely limited. The room service menu was the same as the restaurant and lounge menu, and there were no other options nearby besides fast food. The worst part of our stay was... my husband got food poisoning from the breakfast! We ate nothing but hotel food for the 3 days/2 nights, so there was no way it was anything else.
On top of everything, we were quite astounded at the high costs of everything: the hotel breakfast, even the extra charge for the hot springs... this was not a baby- or child-friendly hotel as there was no way we could enjoy the breakfast or hot springs for long enough to...
Read moreUpon our arrival, there was a line of over 100 people in the lobby, requiring a 90 minute wait to check in. The pool and gym were closed, though somehow the property’s pay-for-entry hot spring pools remained open. The checkout process involved another 30 minute wait. And, the hotel could not accept my (functional) Marriott Bonvoy American Express card, due to what they claimed was a technical issue. Overall, the hotel seemed woefully unprepared to deal with their guests. Any claim that this hotel is that of an international standard is untrue. In general, I remain disappointed, particularly by the fact that I pay $500 USD a year for a corporate branded credit card (for exactly these purposes), and this hotel was unable to accept it - neither at check-in or check-out. In another guest’s words, who was also unable to pay using his Bonvoy card, “Simply unacceptable.” In short, I would not recommend the hotel and I will not return. As a matter of fact, had it not said Marriott on the door, I would never have believed it actually was one. Then again, the mere fact that it is a Marriott has rattled my confidence in the brand and its...
