Highlight is the location; short walk to Beitucheng subway station which is then only a short distance to the CNCC (was in Beijing for a conference). The seven-eleven was ideal next door for snacks and wine, and a short walk was mcdonalds which was also ideal.||||Room was very clean, but needed some maintenance; lots of cracks in the bathroom, and the headboard wasn't in great shape. I also had an issue with the door handle/lock, in that the battery had died and couldn't access my room. This was rectified quickly. The room could have done with a fridge however.||||The front desk staff were very helpful, however there was a big language barrier. I expected hotel staff to have a better understanding of english, especially with the amount of english speaking guests staying. They did try to help, with the use of translation apps, but occasionally they would giggle at my misunderstanding, which I found rude. ||||Breakfast is OK, not a lot of Western choice; just toast and eggs, with cereals and some fruit. The seating area inside and out is very nice however. ||||There was a sign by the bar saying "served here are pizzas, pastas, paninis, cocktails, wine, beer", but the restaurant menu had no pizzas, no paninis, and two basic pastas... the rest were local Chinese food, would have appreciated some more Western food here too. Also, there was no drinks menu, and trying to ask what drinks they do and how much they were was too difficult. The language barrier here was a lot worse than the front desk, could only communicate through pointing. The food also wasn't great. I had the "cream bacon spaghetti" two nights, and the second night it had large chopped onions which should not be in what is meant to be a carbonara, and tasted bad. Also, no seasoning, even on the tables.||||Also the last night, where I had to be up at 3am, it sounded like a party was happening in the room opposite. A lot of people in and out of the room, loud laughter and clapping. I rang the front desk to complain, as it was getting on to be 10pm, 11pm. Firstly, they didn't really understand me. Then someone rang back with slightly better english, and said they had rang them to be quiet. This changed nothing, and so it was still loud.||||All in all, OK value for money, comfy sleep, just a shame about the restaurant and...
Read moreWe stayed at the hotel in August 2018. Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express Beijing Minzuyuan was just Okay! We had neither major bad nor great experiences. Considering it is a budget hotel, our room was quite large for two of us and comfortable. They changed our sheets every other day, towels every day and provided two bottles of water and hot drink sachets for free every day.
Since my partner had to go to the China National Convention Center everyday, we wanted to book our hotel that was close enough to the Center, and also had good access to the city center (Tiananmen Square etc) for sightseeing. There is a station called Beitucheng that has two lines (Line 8 and 10) and it takes 5 min from the hotel to get to the station. It was easy to access the airport express using the line 10 to Sanyuanqiao. But the path from the station to the hotel was rather dirty and not so present to walk. There were street lights and a lot of people were passing by day and night so it should be quite safe even if you walked late in evening.
If your room number is odd, your window might face the street. The noise from the neighbourhood can still be heard through the windows and the sound insulation of the hotel is merely adequate. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs.
The hotel breakfast was rather limited. The continental breakfast was particularly limited and the Chinese breakfast was okay but the presentation was non existent. They basically put pans and bowls with food and there is no change to the variety. But there is a small convenience store next to the hotel and with the station being not so far away you may get breakfast quite easily elsewhere.
The hotel staff was courteous and helpful, although the majority don't speak English. We could manage to communicate with them using Google Translate (Be aware: Google Service do not always work in China. You must enable offline dictionary or preparing a Hong Kong SIM or VPN in advance).

Read moreGood Hotel. I stayed for 1 week in September 2015. Front desk staff as well as the house keeping staff were very courteous and helpful. I had a pillow that was too soft and housekeeping made an effort to change it for me as soon as I asked about it even though I wasn't going to need it for 10 hours time.
The location of the hotel is good with walking proximity to the National Stadium, Aquatics Center and The National Olympic Center. There are also a couple of subway stops within easy walking distance. A few restaurants are nearby as well, but nothing great. Street vendors are available in the evening selling fruit and crepes. There is a convenience store located just outside the main entrance.
My rate included breakfast which was great. There were Chinese offerings of dumplings, vegetables and rice, and also eggs made to order, a do it yourself toaster with a variety of breads and cereal, coffee, juice, milk, tea, etc. Overall the breakfast was very good, but could get busy depending on what time you were there and if there was a big tour group preparing for departure.
Wifi was included with the room. It was pretty good, but not blazing fast. Plenty of bandwidth for a call over messaging apps, but not reliable enough to sit down and enjoy a streaming video...
