First off, if you speak anything other than mandarin you'll have a tough time communicating; Even in Cantonese. Google translate will help infinitely. The layout is rather elaborate with weird twists and turns. Decor is interesting. Elevators are quite small compared to North American standards (not sure if it's a China thing, other places have similar sizes) The breakfast buffet is above average. Nice assortment of food (fried rice, spring rolls, stir fried dishes, Chinese pastries, pudding desserts, congee etc.) with a build-your-own noodle soup bar (it's a pork bone broth and you have assortment of vegetable toppings) and fresh fried egg station. The washrooms are adjacent to the beds separated with a clear glass wall. There and blinds that block the direct view but someone on the bed side can easily lift the blinds exposing that natural nude individual showering for all to see. There were mosquitoes in my room. Windows were closed too. Heard one buzzing by my ear in the middle of the night, (Super loud even through ear plugs) woke up to ~6-8 bites. Unbelievable...

Very good breakfast, Nice decorated hallway and room. Friendly staff and couple of decent restaurants. The room is a little wearing out especially on carpet,20 minutes walk from subway line 9. 50 minutes ride to the center of the city.

We stayed here as part of a tour package which I suspect they get a lot of business from. The hotel is clean and the breakfast that is included with the stay is pretty good. The beds were comfortable too. The hotel is near nothing so be prepared to bus everywhere. There really is nothing to do in the immediate area. The hotel caters primarily to Mandarin speaking tourists, so don't expect any English here (that said, the staff were friendly to us non-Mandarin speakers). As others have said, the layout of the hotel is maze like and to be frank, why would anyone want to stay in a Mexica themed hotel in Beijing? The rooms while clean were odd in some ways. There was a glass window between the bath/shower and the main room. Good for watching people shower if that is your thing. Also, the design of the bath meant that when you showered, water often poured onto the floor in the bathroom which is likely why there needed to be a drain in the bathroom floor. Lastly, for some reason the lighting is really poor. We had two rooms and both had burned out light bulbs. Even if they worked the place is really dark. Last thing that I found odd was that the fitness room and poor were an extra charge.||||Would I stay there again, likely not, there are better places in Beijing. If I had to stay there, I would not have a problem as it...

I came here last summer with my family and was shocked by the poor hotel staff attitude. Thinking about our past experience at the Maya Island Hotel still irritates me. Just asking for help with directions got us a dirty look from the people at the front desk. The woman at the front desk one evening almost started yelling when we made a request with regards to the rooms we were staying in. Our tour guide had to charm/flirt with her to calm her down before things escalated. ||||Management needs to either replace these staff members with more pleasant individuals or train the current staff members there on the definition of hospitality which seems to be difficult for them to understand. ||||PRO: Above average breakfast buffet and rooms are relatively clean. ||||CON: Poor staff attitude and the first floor is a maze with creepy statues. ||||OVERALL: Would not return and would highly recommend other travelers go elsewhere. We've been to plenty of hotels in China where both the staff members and the hotel facilities were exceptional (Maya Island Hotel is not one of them). Go anywhere else except Maya...
