A beautiful and unique boutique hotel in a peaceful and not very touristy neighbourhood .. with one major issue. Cheap management. We checked into the hotel on 29 April, 2 days before Labor Day, a major holiday in China. We were given 2 rooms on the 8th floor, the highest. The rooms were like a sauna, insanely hot, and the air con was completely non functional - it was just blowing warm air no matter how low you set the thermostat. I had engineers come up to my room and they measured the air coming out at 30C. Even with the air con off the room didn't cool down. I did change rooms to the 5th floor and it was marginally better but not amazing. Staff did their best and provided me with a fan which helped a little. It was let slip later by a staff member that the air conditioning system was off until May 1, because there were not enough guests. After May 1 our experience transformed - the air con started working and the breakfast options expanded greatly. I do think the latter makes sense, but it's unbelievable that a 5 star Shangri La would switch off the air conditioning, especially in a fairly warm period. It's totally unbecoming of the brand and I was really disappointed. The last few days were great. The breakfast was delicious with an excellent spread. The hotel is really beautiful and aesthetically designed. There was one night where the water wasn't hot enough for a bath, though - perhaps management is also skimping on the water heater... The location is good but definitely not for tourists, but more for those looking for a relaxing staycation, or who have a nearby event or conference. It takes an hour to get to major tourist attractions in Beijing. If the management didn't cheap out this would be an amazing hotel. As it is, I don't think it meets Shangri La brand standards.

Great hotel with great value for the price. The rooms were very clean and spacious, the bathroom was well equipped. A very unique hotel with some interesting architecture and design. The staff are extremely helpful and kind. The hotel is rather far from the city but it is not difficult or expensive to get a taxi or cycle if you enjoy that. The wellness spa was clean and very nice. I enjoyed using the sauna and steam room. The gym is great offering a large variety of machines and weights.

This place is very impressive. An old power plant, converted into the foyer/conference rooms/dining area of a hotel, with the rooms connected by a 3rd story covered hallway. I have photos attached of the room and some of the facilities, but they don't do it justice. Food was great, service was great, area interesting, but it is about a 90 min drive from the international airport.

The hotel itself was an amazing idea. The building seems to be a former warehouse. Big and high in the lobby area. The design of the hotel is amazing as well. Never saw such kind of rebuilding of a former industrial building to a commercial building. The location of the hotel is a bit outside of everything. Driving distance to Beijing or the airports (T3 – 50 km or Daxing – 60 km) is about more than an hour. According to the traffic, Daxing could be even more convenient. There are some restaurants and small shops around the area, some within walking distance. The area Shougang itself is a former industrial park for metal production. The Beijing Olympics were held over there. The idea for this park comes from Germany from the Ruhr area, were they also formed a park out of a former metal production resp. coal mining.||The staff of the hotel is friendly and helpful. Especially at the breakfast. The only complain is that they were overloaded when there is a event or bigger delegation coming. Then the breakfast can be a little mess. Generally, when it’s not that full, the hotel staff is very helpful. The hotel rooms are big enough, clean and offering everything you need. The breakfast is plentiful and offers everything what you can expect from an international breakfast. The hotel has a parking garage which seems to be free for hotel guests. Furthermore the hotel offers a lobby lounge bar, where you can eat and drink until late in the night. The cocktails were quite good and the bartender even offers drinks, which are not on the menu. The only complain we have was, that the waiter was a bit slow with the drinks. The bar offers a large variety of drinks. Normally we would give 5 stars, but due to the far distance from Beijing and the airports as well as the slow waiter, we only give 4 stars. Room to improve 😉.||All in all we can say that the couple of days we stayed in this hotel were amazing. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is pretty good. The only disadvantage of the hotel is, that it’s far outside of the city center of Beijing and a bit far from the airports. So not really recommendable, if you want to explore Beijing. For any other reason we can really recommend the hotel because of its very good service and offers. We had a comfortable and...

Be aware there are lots of fake AI created views for this hotel. I stayed in July, second visit. It is a wonderfully designed hotel with instant wow factor as you enter the lobby with industrial chic architecture combining old and new. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring nearby Shougang park and also the hills of western Beijing.||The rooms are standard, not quite the five start standard of others I would say. The views are magnificent of the nearby hills on a clear day. My main issue is pricing for 1500 RMB the whole experience should be absolute five star quality. For Beijing standard this is top end pricing for hotels and more than what you might pay for five star hotels in the the CBD area in downtown Beijing. I feel the rooms could be better for the price, slightly bigger and better finished. Also I was disappointed that the hotel bar closes at 2200 on a Friday night. The service also wasn’t great, we were sat for 10 minutes and asked the barman for a drink who said he closes at 2200.||Overall this is an excellent hotel to explore the nearby parks and hills. Recommend staying once to enjoy the unique design and heritage of Shougang Park. With slightly better service this would be...
