This hotel is a no thrills 4 star hotel, but there is a shortage of good hotels in Fengtai which appears to be a mostly residential district. No seats at the front desk so you have to stand when you check-in (ok, I am spoiled by the Chinese hotels). No bath tubs in any of the rooms. The bathroom also is dimly lit which could be a problem for women who wear a lot of makeup, although it does have a magnifying mirror available. The shampoo and bathfoam are labeled in English which also is helpful for nonchinese speakers. The king size bedroom was 550 RMB which is reasonable but you could do much better in terms of quality in other Beijing districts. The rooms with two twins are about 100 RMB cheaper.||||The do not disturb and make-up room signs are the same color. Twice we were disturbed by housekeeping who knocked on the door when the do not disturb sign was hanging outside. Again, the problem was caused by the dimly lit hallways and the fact that the two signs look almost identical. The hotel should really go with a red and green sign for housekeeping as opposed to brown with small hard to read letters of the same color. ||||Free internet with a short cable about 2 feet long (bring your own cable), WiFi would be nice in Chinese hotels). The rooms are very large with large brightly lit windows. NO THERMOSTAT IN ROOM, ONLY A KNOB THAT CONTROLS THE FAN. MEANS THE ROOMS CAN BE TOO HOT OR TOO COLD. Two small windows that will not help control the room temperature. Very large king size bed with medium softness (Chinese beds sometimes can feel like a plank of wood covered with a bit of cloth).||||Service was very good. The staff spends an hour cleaning each room. The front desk staff and the floor manager both speak a little English. Two free bottles of water each day, the room staff forgot one day to replenish. Free breakfast which also is relatively cheap. Coffee not bad, buffet food about average. Pastries seem to be better than average for China. Brewed coffee and freshly cooked wontons. The buffet does not vary very much and most of the dishes are cold.||||You will have to get your own taxi which means that you need have the address where you are going written out a head of time. It is fairly easy to find a cab on the south 3rd ring. The closest subway station Majiapu (line 4) is about a 15 minute walk, not bad in nice weather. Restaurants also are about a 15 minute walk. There is a nice collection of restaurants in the shopping complex 15 minutes east on the third ring.||||There are two non-smoking floors and they are odor free. The TV is across from the bed and although it a large flat screen TV, the room is very large and the TV appears...
Read moreThe Wanfangyuan International Hotel is one of the most comfortable hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. If you are from the west and plan to travel by train throughout China and the Beijing South Railway Station is one you may use, then look no further and choose to stay here and to have breakfast included. The hotel is competitively priced, comfortable, clean, safe, and welcoming. The environment has all of the amenities you seek when traveling away from home. The water pressure is strong, the beds are more comfortable than what you sleep on nightly, and the location provides you with the ease of traveling throughout Beijing by train, car, and bicycle. The hotel provides breakfast if you pay for it and the food is authentic and of the highest quality. The staff is lovely, communicative, knowledgeable, and helpful. It's the best hotel you will find...
Read moreGood clean hotel. Good spread at breakfast. Rooms are above average decor. It seems to be a favourite with the Chinese middle class. We stayed only one night and planned to catch a train from the Beijing south railway station. The hotels very close to the station which was our very reason for booking it.Though we cut out 90% of the traffic jam, br aware the jam at the station still took us 20 mins to clear. The reception staff were most helpful and friendly. But it may also be due to the fact that I speak Chinese mandarin. They even helped us book a taxi the next morning to take us tpnthe...
