We’ve travelled quite a bit over the past ten years, lived in many hotels, resorts and B & Bs, and learned how to be flexible. In mid February our tour group stayed in this hotel (of horrors) for one night. From the looks of the lobby we thought we will spend a night in a 5 star hotel, it was so elegant and classy. Don’t look now but when we went up to the 8th floor, A Tower, the nightmare started. Some rooms had no light; some had keys that didn’t fit. Most rooms only had one set of towels. Our room is 805 A Tower, I didn’t complain about the room being small and stuffy smell, dirty carpet, chipped paint and only one set of towels. But I can’t live with an old, broken toilet, dirty and mouldy grout on basin counter, toilet base and bathtub wall. They used tape to tape up the trapdoor on one side of the bathtub wall and a broken closet door. A homeless shelter is much much better than this. By North American standards this part (A Tower) of this hotel should be destroyed and rebuilt long ago. We supposed to stay there one more night on our way back from Zhangjiajie, but we didn’t.||Remember not to book any room in A Tower till they renovated...
Read moreStayed here for an initial 4 nights and returned for an additional night later in the week. Four nights on 15th floor on a supposedly non-smoking floor (with ash trays stationed by elevators), in a non-smoking room - old, worn out room, smoky smelling, musty and in need of refurbishment. Moldy areas in shower/tub area, carpets nasty and smelly as were the drapes. Head boards on beds both had rubbed away areas where someone's head had rested, many, many times. One night stay on the 17th floor much better. Room had been refurbished - looked and smelled much better. In reality, I don't think there are any non-smoking floors or rooms. Also, we did not get breakfast w/our stay. Asked for and received a fan to cool off the room. Must leave room key in slot for continued AC, but maids will pull your card if you do not implore them not to. Wifi iffy in rooms- sometimes worked, most time not. Beds good, not a box spring for...
Read moreWe had 3 rooms on the 20th floor, supposedly non-smoking but the smell was disgusting, dirty carpets, beds were really uncomfortable, couldn't get the temperature below 26°c, european chargers for bigger devices such as laptops wouldn't fit in the older chinese sockets, clogged sink, clogged internet, dusty. ||Staff was nice and breakfast ok.||I guess for the price, compared to European prices you could argue it's a good deal, and it might be depending on your expectations, but even if you'd get a lower standard hotel for the same price in Europe, the hotel would still be cleaner and healthier.||Been traveling around China a few times now over the last 4 years and even though there were beautiful exceptions, I have come to the very sad conclusion that I only want to stay in western hotels around here from now on and I hate myself for...
