Amazing location near large lake with paddle boats, amusement park, and walkable to the Hunan Museum! Beautiful old marble and soaring high ceilings. This hotel used to be a favorite of Chairman Mao's and the history is there. That also means it is at least 60 years old. Even though our bathrooms were remodeled with Toto fixures, rain showers and handhelds, there are still signs of deferred maintenance (wallpaper starting to peel, walls visibly patched). A toiletries kit (toothbrush, comb, toothpaste, small packets of shampoo and conditioner, shower cap) was 10 yuan. 1 round of soap and wall dispenser with ?2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner was free. Instant coffee (no creamer) and 2 types of tea were available. We missed breakfast because they stopped at 9am, but heard it was only noodles, rice, vegetables, no coffee, no fruit. Worst thing for us was a mosquito in the room, which we just couldn't catch/kill. Maybe putting a mosquito zapper racquet in the closet would be helpful. Front...
