I joined a private group tour of 28 people using a travel agent in Hong Kong. For 2 nights and 3 days, the tour starts at the Shenzhen border after you get off the train in Lok Ma Chau.|Gettiing there to the Mengshan Forest Park could be a hassle if you're going by yourself. Booking of high speed train tickets for a start to Shaoguan (1.5 hour) then the connecting bus (2.5 Hour) to the hotel could be difficult. |The hotel is at the foothill of Mengshan Forest Park about 5 min drive to the entrance. This is a nice forest park with well paved paths and solid rock steps up the mountain. Beautiful scenery wherever you go. There was a cold front while we were there, hence we could see far. But the misty atmosphere is out of yhis world.|With the group tour, we have the benefit of not having to find our way, including where to eat, or where the toilet is.|The hotel itself is 5 star by china standard. In my opinion, 4 at best. Nevertheless, it is neat clean and tidy. The smell of cigarette smoke is there but tolerable. Something that you can't avoid it seems.|Our twin beds are 4 foot beds, separate shower and toilet, a single seater sofa, small coffee table, a desk with a chair, floor lamp. TV and other shelving are build into the wall saving space. Bath robes and slippers (waterproof plastic ones) are provided in case you want to walk down to the hotspring in your swim suit. However, only 2 sizes are available and they are way too big. Toiletries includes toothbrush, tooth paste, comb, shampoo, shower gel, shower cap. There is an in room safe, a bar fridge, water kettle, complimentary bottled water, coffee and tea is very basic. Forget about watching TV. All of them local chinese stations. Free wifi showing strong signals. I didn't receive one single message thru whatsapp, or messenger or fb. Can't google anything. Google map doesn't work. Not even weather forecast. You get the picture. The plush carpet is simply not clean. I kept my shoes on. The cooling won't be switched on if temp is below 28c. In winter season, I noticed that there is adequate heating. The lobby could be cold so I don't recommend walking back to your room in your wet costume.|The best part is the hot spring. You get access to the changing room by using your room card. You will be given a locker. The changing room staff is helpful and generally polite. Same can be said about the staff at the hot spring pools. There are indoor hot spring with various massage fountains. They are fantastic. Then you will have to climb some steps to the various outdoor pools build along the hill side. There is a section showing the source of the hot spring. As a group, we enjoyed the experience. There are drink stations and toilets to use. Ginger water is my favourite.|The breakfast is elaborate by chinese standard. Forget about getting proper cereals, or toasts or coffee or juice. No oat meal on offer, or yoghurt, or jam. But if you are happy with buns, sweet potatoes, corns, congee, noodle, fried rice, you will be fine.|The standard of the restaurant is the best in the area. There are other eating venues outside the hotel for more local cuisines. If you are for buying local produce, they are everywhere.|All in all, it is a nice place for mountain fresh air and hotspring. No one will chase you to sell you stuff. Join a tour and you can kick back and relax.|Bring your swim suit and plastic slippers for the hotspring. There are on site therapists for massage as well. The charges can be lower in that part of the country. We didn't have...

Read moreWe were in a group of 4 and took a 3-day-tour to visit there in March this year. We seemed to be the only 43 guests staying at the hotel at the time. I did not count, but I guessed it was at least equipped with over 20 open-air pools plus several indoor pools. Though it rained a lot during our stay. But, we were still able to enjoy the pools when the rain stopped for a while. The hot spring pools were signified in different types, such as red wine, milk, tea, and flower, etc. They even had a place named Noah's Ark at the Spring area. However, it was closed for maintenance during our stay. We soaked ourselves in the pool for every 15 minutes as advised and felt more relaxed. It was also suggested that the pool water had some healing effect on skin disease. After bathing, we went direct to the massage room. They had very skillful therapists. It was so comfortable that we fell asleep during the treatment. The treatment costed only around $170 for one part (1 1/2 hour). I would comment that the hotel was both good at outlook and its inside. The most beneficial in staying in the hotel was one could had a lot of fresh air as it was immersed in a...
