Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Huayu Chongqing — Hotel in Chongqing

|Location - Ideally located for Chongqing North train station which is just a 5 minute taxi ride or 20 minute walk away (should be less but roadworks currently mean footbridge over main road between station and hotel is closed). Booked as a very quick stopover place on our way back by train from a Yangtze cruise trip to Yichang.|Amenities- Unfortunately can’t comment on everything because we didn’t have time for a swim or meals/breakfast because of late night and early morning trains. Did have lovely drink in lobby bar before our cruise though and set up there was very good. Relaxing area to while away a bit of time. Hotel was clean and welcoming, rooms fitted out well and comfy with all mod cons needed. We also used the laundry service which was a little pricey but excellent and it was very good of the hotel to let us drop it off three days before we actually checked in as we passed through Chongqing on way from train station to our cruise. Collected on return when we actually did spend the night.|Staff - some good English speakers on Reception who were welcoming and helpful. I’d like to mention Wilson, one of the Concierges in particular because he was absolutely fantastic on the morning we checked out. His English is excellent. He’s also very clever and worked out that we had made a mistake with our onward train journey. We’d booked a cab to go to Chongqing North station again where we’d arrived the night before (very nearby), but were actually due to go to Guilin from new station Chongqing West. We hadn’t left much time as it was further away so he quickly hailed us a cab, let the driver know of our error and that we needed to get there very speedily. The taxi driver raced through traffic like a F1 driver and we made it with 12 minutes to spare, just enough time to get checked in and on board! We can’t thank Wilson enough - the later trains were fully booked, if we’d missed our train we’d have messed up our whole onward itinerary. Wilson...

Hotel facilities are nice. Rooms are new. Air con in the room is not working...means there is a temperature controller which is useless as the temperature is controlled centrally for all the rooms....so you will end up having 25C degrees in your room.|The worst part of this hotel is the service and it is why I give them 2 stars only. They continuously ask you increase the depodit along the stay. I got to extend my stay by one night, which I did with the receptionist.||At 22h30 they called the room asking me to come fownstairs to pay additional deposit. Told them i will do it the next morning. They agreed. Finally the next morning the new receptionist told me there is no need....|All good then....||Back to the room from work in the evening...i felt like room service for dinner and order some food to the reception.|The manager called me after 5min asking me to come down to the reception to pay more deposit otherwise they can provide room service...what is this!?|First time in my life I face such situation...even in China...||Will never come back...
