Pousada De Coloane is a picturesque 1930's manor overlooking the beach. Easy to get there from the airport by bus. However, once off the bus I was confused bc the were no signs indicating where the hotel was. The bus driver dropped me off & told me to walk down a winding road to a hostel. There was a sign for Cheoc Van beach & hostel, but I was looking for a manor that overlooked the beach called Pousada De Coloane. I flagged a taxi & asked for directions. The taxi driver insisted that Cheoc Van beach hostel was indeed Pousada De Coloane 🙄 $20HK later, I was at Pousada De Coloane hotel also known in Chinese as Cheoc Van. It would have been helpful for the hotel to inform guests of their 2 different names. Immediately upon arrival, I was greeted by lovely smiles & a lovelier terrace that overlooks the beach. The room was cool as I walked in- a relief from the hot & humid weather. The room was clean & furnished with beautifully carved headboards for the bed & gorgeous Portuguese tiles for a pop of color. There is a balcony- also overlooking the beach. I checked the bathroom out. A giant tub- yay! After my flight & bus travel, all I wanted to do was relax in a soaking tub w a glass of Portuguese wine, which the hotel puts in the room for a reasonable price of 183 HKD/bottle. As I got closer to the tub, I saw the black mold all over the caulking. Difficult to relax in such a setting, but my glass of wine was helping where the relaxation of the atmosphere lacked. I ran the bath water & closed the drain, but the drain wouldn't stop draining. I tried the jets in the tub but they spewed out rust & sediments into the tub. Thank goodness I wasn't in it! I realized the tub had not been in use for awhile & after I cleaned the tub of the rust & sediments, I settled on a shower. Even that was uncomfortable. The shower head hardly reaches the handle on the wall, the water spills out of the tub incessantly- even with the shower curtain drawn. By the time I got out of the shower, the bathroom floor was a pool of water. So I had to clean that up, too. By the time I got out of the bathroom, I was more frustrated than when I had arrived. I very much enjoyed that bottle of white Portuguese wine though! Delicious! I thought about how dinner on the terrace that overlooks the beach would liven the mood. And it was a pleasant setting. The jazz music playing quietly in the background let me hear the sounds of the waves crashing on shore; the lights on the cliff across & the fireworks just over that cliff were fantastic. I ordered a Portuguese favorite of mine- the bacalao, but it was drenched in oil. I couldn't finish it. Otherwise the service was exceptional and so was the view. The next morning we went over to the pool only to learn it has been under construction since March 2018. It is May 2018. A. Why is renovation taking this long? B. Why weren't interested guests warned of this before booking? The pool was the deciding factor in booking here, and it had been under construction for months. It was a Saturday morning & workers were sawing right next to the pool. Who is going to enjoy anything there like that? My friend and I decided to go down to the beach. Why not! The beach is alright only if you like swimming around plastic garbage in the water. We don't, so we couldn't even enjoy that. My friend & I were leaving at different times the following day, & specifically went to the front desk the day before to ask about the different options for getting to the airport. We were assured by Maurice there would be no problem getting a taxi at any time. Guess what happened the next day? I had difficulty getting a taxi because no one wanted to go there without the promise of an extra tip. Maurice, the front desk agent, told me I could get a taxi to come in five minutes if I gave a $30HK tip.
I was so done w Pousada De Coloane, I reluctantly agreed. Then ended up waiting 10 minutes.
It's upsetting that my friend and I had more fun outside of the hotel last weekend. The only plus was that delicious bottle...
Read moreI was looking for a getaway to have a quality time all alone surrounded with wild nature only and this is exactly what I needed in Macau. The estate is located on the hill side above the second popular beach in Macau, with zero traffic, so most of the time one may hear birds tweeting and waves beating against the shore, perfect. The sea itself wasn’t the priority for me as I’m realistic and aware of the rather sad water pollution at this part of the South Chinese Sea, that’s why I was more than happy to find an amazing pool right at the door, with not many guests sharing the desire to cool down in the pool I felt it was all mine, and while swimming one can’t help but think what may be better to enjoy pleasant waters being amidst lush green hills. I love the furniture in the room, all in the same style, obviously customized and styled in Mediterranean fashion and so is the room, decorated with blue&white tiles, showcasing the Portugal distinctive artwork. I would just suggest to add some mugs or cups so that the guests could pumper themselves with teas or coffees sitting out in the romantic balcony gazing the skies . Be ready to climb up the hill a little bit to reach the hotel, and if you wish to travel by bus, also need to go upstairs, which may be a little hard if you have suitcases. But the staff also can help you to find a taxi, so it’s not a big problem. The neighborhood is small yet there’s a decent restaurant Gondola, in 5 min walking distance. Huge advantage of the hotel location is its proximity to the popular tourist spot Coloane village and Black Sand Beach, you may walk or take a bus so it’s really close as well as the casino area, just 20 min by bus. Recommend everyone sharing...
Read moreAt exactly 3pm we checked in, because they only have 20 rooms i think, so they needed to clean it all first before they gave us our room. If you wanted a place where there’s calmness, peaceful, slow wifi, breezy, this hotel is great. But it’s amenities are too old , just like the hair blower it takes hours before your hair get dried, the jacuzzi is not functioning, the tv has no stations to watch for, the telephone is not working too, the water is to be refilled by self service. That’s why we rated this as 2/10. We just enjoy the chirping of birds and the fresh air. The pool also is not clean and good, no place for children to swim in. There’s a Portuguese restaurant and for every order there’s a 10% discount once you’re a hotel guest. No choice because that’s the only restaurant open nearby. But if you can go out there’s an italian kind of restaurant on the public pool area of cheokvan beach. We ordered our food there and you can dine in also, just a little pricey. The next day, we decided to wake up early and take a walk on the beach side to freshen up after having our buffet breakfast. I hope they will clean entirely the hotel especially the pool side. It’s good to stay there and have a coffee...
