I stayed here one night during a recent business trip. The hotel is old, halls have the smell of stale smoke like many of the Chinese hotels I've stayed in, but my room (non-smoking) was passable. There were ash trays and matches in the room but I could not detect the smell of smoke. My room was large, I had a suite, furniture dated but functional with a reasonably comfortable bed and clean. Bathroom and shower were in good condition and seemingly recently renovated. I ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was fine. Note however that my hosts both booked me into the hotel and ordered the food at dinner. I wouldn't expect there to be much English spoken at this hotel as it primarily serves a Chinese clientele. Read moreThe Central Plaza is a five to ten minute walk from the Light Rail Station, has a Metro station nearby, lots of busses, and taxis take you all over downtown for just ten RMB from here. I've read the other reviews and have no idea why they are so negative. Maybe the hotel has improved since then. The front desk staff spoke English, returned my passport quickly, and asked for a small deposit. A room on the 22nd floor with a fantastic view of Dalian landmarks was around 100 CDN. City lights, Dalian's huge soccer ball sculpture, and the tower on the hill were upstaged by downtown city lights at night, including a dancer on the exterior of a skyscraper.
