We visited this very average hotel on the 8th of this month before going on a trip to the DPRK. We returned this evening to be told very abruptly by the manager that the hotel will not allow foreigners.||Then to make things worse the receptionist (the same one from checking in three day prior) claimed never to have seen us before and we hadn’t stayed previously. It was almost like a sketch from a Chinese version of Fawlty Towers.||||I tried to argue my case and showed them the reservation on my email but sadly they didn’t care and they then changed tack, claiming it wasn’t for the Hanting hotel and was for somewhere else. Another excuse was that the government wouldn’t allow westerners to stay in this hotel. How odd. ||||I told them my wife was pregnant and the three staff involved could not have cared less. We were then ushered out of the hotel like scum onto the dark street outside full of dodgy looking guys loitering about shouting stuff at us in Chinese. I am certainly not the kind of guy who is intimidated easily but with a upset pregnant wife and now no accommodation in a shady Chinese boarder city I felt extremely uneasy. ||||My conclusion was that the hotel was overbooked or the manager simply had a dislike with European tourists either way I would hate for anyone to book this hotel and arrive late at night from the train or the airport and have to find alternative accommodation like we did, plus would you really want to stay in an establishment that employs staff with...
Read moreThis hotel is right next door to the train station, and only a short walk into town. Perfect if you are just stopping off in Dandong before a trip to North Korea.||The rooms are average sized with large en suite bathrooms. The windows are huge, with an internal window in the bathroom which allows plenty of light in. A small mini bar is provided at very reasonable prices. There is also a flat screen TV, but no foreign language programming.||Downstairs is a resturaunt and bar area, but it is lacking in atmosphere and never really seems too busy.||None of the staff speak English here, which can lead to a lot of pointing and drawing pictures. They all seem freindly enough though.||We had a bit of an issue with checking out early in the morning - there was no one there to give our deposit back. It took a good 20 minutes of shouting in the lobby before the receptionist in the office woke up.||Wifi is available in the lobby and restuarant. Wired Internet access is available in the rooms as well. It is very fast...
Read moreI stayed at the Hanting Express Dandong for one night in September 2014. I travelled to and from Dandong by train and searched for a hotel next to the train station. This hotel has the perfect location, just a few steps to go from the railway station. I had a pre-booked room via HRS with a rate of 227 RMB. But the reception staff told me, that the current room rate is 180 RMB and they charged only this 180 RMB to me. That was very fair. Don't expect the reception staff to speak english. I wanted a receipt, but they did not understand - but they asked for someone who speaks english and after the lady has translated my wish, I got the receipt with no problem. Room was spacious and clean enough. It's a 10-15 minutes walk to the river side. A KFC is located close to the hotel. I was satisfied with my choice to stay at...
