Howard Johnson Jindi Plaza Datong — Hotel in Datong

I am not sure why other made such a good remark to this hotel. By far, it is terrible hotel I have ever stayed and claimed to be a world chain hotel by Howard Johnson is really substandard! Firstly, we asked thru agent that we want non smoking room for our holiday. When we checked in, the receptionist confirmed non smoking room . When we gets into our room, unpacked and left for dinner. When we returned , we have very strong smoke smell probably from other rooms thru the aircon duct. I tried to turn on the aircon to ventilate but don’t seem to work. As it was late and I try to bear with it.. next morning I asked to the receptionist whether my room 2312 and 2316 are the smoking room ? As we all can’t sleep the whole night. I calmed the smell is so strong and confronted the receptionist why is there an ashtray in my room if this is a non smoking room.. they later admitted it is a smoking floor and hence smoking room.. I asked why they confirmed a non smoking upon checking in and they said they have make some clean up and spray the fragrance to get rid of the smell so to consider a non smoking room.. I was so furious and said to her this is cheating and lying ! I demanded to change room and they asked me to pack and move.. I refused as this is not my fault. Ending they gave me air fresher machine in my room and is getting better.. however I am still not happy of their behaviour!! I also raised the floor is wet in the room probably due to air conditioner gets choked! In the morning, we booked for 5 pax and all with breakfast.. they said Lowe need to pay for extra one .. which I refused ! Somehow I think the management of this hotel needs to be “fired” or retrained ! This is shameful to carry then Howard Johnson brand and claimed to be a 4 stars hotel! Also theres no lobby for you to unload your luggage as the front lobby packed with street car.. bear in mind you have to walk with your luggage under the -8degC! Worst thing the indication of the sign of a non smoking hotel with non smoking sign everywhere, you can still see the visitors smoking in the restaurant, lift , lobby... it is terrible experience here and I would propose other to choose different hotel in Datong when come to visit...I am going to xian to stay the same chain hotel and really hotel no...

This is not a 5 star hotel. Although it's close to the old city wall, it's a 30 minute walk to the old city center. The cleaning lady woke us up despite the "do not disturb" sign (she knocked non-stop for 5 minutes!). We showed her the sign and she asked if we wanted some fruit. I was so mad! The reason I pay for the hotel, is to sleep! Also we found a lot of hairs on the floor, on the bed... It's not clean. The gym and pool are gloomy, the lights turned off. The lobby staff are excellent and helpful, but we won't...

Spacious room, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were more than adequate with a choice of varieties.Hotel location was ok just outside the wall though neighbouring shops were all shuttered.
