Overall, the stay was extraordinary except the smoking smell on the non-smoking floor and the disappointing dining experience in the hotel restaurants. If you have no plan to dine in the hotel, this comment should be irrelevant to you.
First of all, the F&B staffs are absolutely friendly. They’re always carrying a big smiley face and positive attitude. The Shunde food we had was excellent. The problem was on the equipments and staff trainings - when the staff showed us to a grand, private dining room, we could clearly felt the air conditioner was not running in the room. After multiple discussions with the staffs, they insisted the AC system has been working and we had to be more patient. But we kept sweating in the room while waiting for the food. The appetite was also fading away due to the terrible heat in the room. My friend finally found out the AC was on the ventilation mode! No wonder it was not helping with the heat.
The next morning, we returned to the same restaurant for Dim Sum. We chose to be seated in the public area after the private room experience the night before. Again, the food was extraordinary but the staffs seem to be always very busy and nobody was looking after our table/the other tables. Whenever we need a spoon, extra tea, chilli sauce or to order food, there’s nobody around. The staffs were super busy. Also, all the used plates and cutteries were not collected after the tables were checked out. We felt we were eating on a battlefield. Although we had great food, the slow response to our need and the standard procedure of managing tables were disappointing. I think dining experience shouldn’t be focusing on food only but the service is also...
Read moreArrived late to Guangzhou Airport from Narita and took approximately 90 mins to drive to the hotel. To find the parking entrance was a very confusing exercise and there was little help offered by the concierge staff for its direction. Checking in was swift as the room key was pre-organized and the gentleman provided me very warm welcome in accordance with my Ambassador Premier status. The room was upgraded to a standard suite I believe, which was quite modern and it did meet my expectation. Welcome amenities including a can of soda water and some local delicacies including a piece of cheesecake and a welcome letter hand signed by the GM. The bed was ok but the linen was quite rough due to its low threading. The amazing part was the breakfast and you have to try it out yourself to believe it! Very Shunde style! They even had hand made steamed rice noodle-a very delicious Cantonese food I used to eat often when I was little. The overall experience has been rated down by the checkout. Called for luggage assistance but no luck after long wait. Had to rush down with the luggage by myself to catch another flight out of town again. Overall a good hotel...
Read morePossibley the worst starred hotel I've been to. We heard this noise when we entered the room and thought it was the air conditioning only to realize after that one window actually didn't close properly. They asked someone to come fix it but couldn't. One of the workers told us that its "normal" since it was a windy day and at least there's some fresh air. We asked for a room change but reception told us that the hotel was fully booked, which was a lie because we found rooms online. She then again called someone to go take a look and we ended up with a tapped window that still had a crack which we could clearly hear cars honking downstairs and wind blowing...
