First, let me explain one thing to travelers to China PRC. Your not in a western country anymore Toto. The major cities will have the hotels that will serve western food. The outling cities try to catch up. I might add that they will cater to your needs better than any other country in the world, it is the asian way. The Ronqiao hotel is the finest hotel in Fuqing area. I spent one year living in the Rongqiao. The staff was more than helpful. The location is almost perfect, 45 min. from the closest airport, 45 min from the Capitol of Fujian Prov. (Fuzhou) which has much larger selection of hotels and nightclubs, You will find that a great number of Locals speek or at least understand English especially the under 30 age group. Most are eager to help with any translations. The City of Fuqing is very small and has a few shops mostly for building supplies. However the Kongcheng city boasts a KFC and McDonalds and various other shops and street vendors. Across the street from the Rong Qiao Hotel is a Trustmart, which is simular to a Wall-Mart with grocery and clothing. In addition to this in the same building are other shops and a nite club. In the previous reveiw photo, it show "shoddy" wiring. This wiring is most likley grounds. They use a different electric system than the USA. Most of the construction in China is Sub-standard to our specs. but it will alway look pleasing to the eye, If you visit this hotel, just ask the manager in charge of the resturant and lounges (his chosen english name is Red Crab) for any thing you want, and if he can find it you...

However, the hotel is old and it shows. Rooms were musty, and the air conditioner in one of my rooms was not working. The housekeeping lady came to check, grabbed the chair from the room, and stepped on the chair to feel the wind coming out of the air conditioner (with her shoes on!!). She came back saying that the maintenance guy didn't know what went wrong, and brought an electric fan along. Since it was late at night and my kids were tired after the trip already, we accepted the instant solution, and tried to sleep -traditional chinese style... on a firm bed with an electric fan. Breakfast was decent, if you like it traditional chinese...
