Hilton Guangzhou Science City — Hotel in Guangzhou City

This hotel was picked for me on my travel to China by my colleague. I stayed there on my first two nights in China.||||The "didi" ride from Baiyun Airport at night took almost an hour and the cost was around 160 RMB. I checked in just before midnight on a Sunday night. There was only one person handling check-in at the beginning so it was moving a bit slow until someone in line asked if another person can help with the check-in. The person checking me in was very courteous and pleasant. Check-in moved relatively quickly despite the additional documentation they needed for a foreigner.||||The hotel had a grand entrance with high ceilings and a bar in the middle. The decor was definitely a bit worn down. I was placed on the highest floor of the hotel at the executive level. The hallway had definitely seen better times with a slightly damp smell. I walked by an outdoor patio that was never used and had seen much better times as the wood flooring was broken and missing in some places.||||I suspect that the smell comes from the fact that the hotel probably used to allow smoking and they had to clean out the floor to turn it into a non-smoking floor. ||||My room was big and quite nicely appointed. It was probably the biggest room I stayed in throughout my week in China. There wasn't the same smell as the hallway which was good. The bed was clean and comfortable. The hotel provided 2 complimentary bottles of water everyday. The room unlike the rest of the hotel did not look as worn down and was quite well maintained.||||I had the breakfast at the hotel everyday and there were excellent selection. The dining area was very large and you can spend quite a bit of time walking around discovering new things to eat. The food was delicious and definitely one of the highlights of staying here.||||The best part of the hotel is that it was very quiet. Science City is not in the middle of the city and is quiet at night. This was a good thing for my first two night as I got good rest. Unlike my check-in experience, the hotel did feel over-staffed in all the restaurants and other facilities.
