This hotel ,while ,as others have said," may be a little older" , was very nice. The rooms and the beds were comfortable by Chinese standards ( they seem tp prefer their beds on the firm side). It was situated on a river with parklike walks along the shores. At night the shoreline is lit with colored lights and the hotel was lit as well with lights along the rooflines, making the sight quite a remarkable at night. |The breakfast was pretty standard for the tourist hotels with both western and chinese fare. |Directly across the river there are several $ and $$ restaurants. These were recommended to us by our guide.|If you go around the hotel, along the road on the right side (facing the hotel) , you come to a walkway. Go right, and you come to what looks like a concession stand with stairs next to it. Those stairs take you to the path to the top of the karst you see from inside the hotel. The last 50 meters are pretty taxing and there are some narrow parts of the path, but unless you are phobic, you can do it if you try. The view is worth it. The view from just below the summit is also worth the trip up. There's just something about reaching the top!|We booked through China Discovery in Chengdu. We found all the hotel booked by them to be very good. Sometimes the location was a little walk away from the center of activity. We had a guide and driver, so we really didn't notice being away from the...
Read moreFirst impression in the lobby is not great, the hotel is a time warp from the 70s. The staff does not speak English so get your translation app ready. The room is also very dated with the hardest beds I’ve ever encountered. Plywood with a sheet on top would be about the same. The room AC seems to make things even more humid and just marginally cooler. Most of the time the AC didn’t work at all, leaving it very warm and humid in the room. The windows have no screens so if you’re worried about mosquitoes you can’t leave the windows open. The room ventilator did seem to pull some air so maybe that helps. ||||On the positive side, the location is very nice in the center of pretty lakes and near the center of Guilin. The room was very clean and the shower was modern with plenty of hot water. ||||The internet has no encryption so it’s sketchy, but the speed was good. VPNs would not work for me in China, but others said Nord worked for them. ||||Breakfast was segregated with a western area that was pretty good. Nice views and a strong AC in the western breakfast room. ||||Overall it wasn’t terrible, but the property has seen better days. Food service was good and the location is great for walking and...
Read moreThe hotel itself is good, clean rooms and the staff are helpful. However the travel agency that is attached to the front desk sold us a scam tour. We booked a rice terrace tour, we left at 8am and did not get to the terraces until 1:30pm! The driver took us to this village where he tried his hardest to sell us on some show of the locals washing their long hair, we tried to leave but we couldn't as there was no bus, taxi or didi anywhere near it, plus the driver had it our tickets to the rice terrace which we paid for but would not give us. He then took us to the only restaurant which charged us triple what it should have cost. When we FINALLY got the terraces the "tour guide" said be back by 3pm and fell asleep in his car! Absolutely ruined the whole experience as that was one of the main reasons for going to Guilin. We complained to the travel agency but the lady just kept repeating the same thing over and over again and not even listening to us.So I'd advise against this hotel until they remove these scammers. Since they allow them to operate there they are enabling this practice. Learn from our mistake and stay away.We wanted a day at the rice terraces, not a...
