We would have loved to give this hotel a 5 stars rating. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and centrally locates in a beautiful bay. Service staff is generally friendly and effective. We received recognition for our IHG Platinum membership with ocean view room upgrade and recognition during breakfast and dinners with preferred seating. However, on the second day of our stay, occurred a very serious incident -- we were being followed by the hotel security staff. Initially, we were just card checked. Card checked in itself, isn't an issue. What followed is serious. After we entered the elevator to go up to our room, a plain cloth security man in gray uniform rushed in to the elevator and started to stare at my wife and I with threatening look. He followed us briefly after we exited the elevator. When we took a elevator later down, the same employee was in the elevator, again, stared at us threateningly. Hotel employees generally avoid using the same elevator as guests if it's not some sort of emergency. So this is highly unusual. It appeared we had been watched and surveilled through security camara, and followed. I reported the incident to front desk and was told someone will call us, but didn't get to speak with anyone, till I raised the incident again during checkout the next day.
As I entered the hotel, I immediately noticed something unusual, the hotel has no security guards in blue uniform, commonly seen in Chinese hotels. But it has too many bellmen all dressed in gray uniform, in the front and lobby area, and only a few actually help customers with luggage and open car doors. Some of the men, well built, just hang around and didn't do much. Among them is an older guy about 50 years old. The same older guy who card checked us, it appeared to me, is the head of security. and he was the one that ordered his security guy to surveil us. But why were we targeted? I don't quite know. One conjecture is that unlike Chinese guests who dressed to impress and carry high price looking handbags, my wife and I dressed casually (short and sandals). We are world travelers, and always carry and dress minimalist. As Chinese Americans, we look like the locals in appearance, yet don't quite look or...
Read moreOutlook was luxurious but for that price and what u should be getting in China is really average. Hailing a cab is always hard and with the hotel located at a further away location makes the journey out everyday a dreadful experience. Conceirge was really helpful in helping to arrange to and fro hotel transport to airport and also to the countdown concert location. It was nice of them to give us a hand written card with a bookmark as a small gift from the ladies who cleaned our room. However for the number of nights that we were there, a little disappointed they didn't manage to observe our daily needs better. The lift lobby always smelt like stale toilet as well. Our room aircon was not working well in the beginning too and that was a totally upsetting experience. And when they changed us to another room I was again disappointed that they didn't initially offer this room with double twin beds when we were entitled to an upgrade but preferred twin bed setting. There isn't much affordable food options in the hotel either. The bathrooms were nice but taking up too much space in the room and inconvenient with glass doors to the shower and toilet area. I chose this hotel because they had double basins which were really nice and convenient but later regret because of the space it took up of the room. I liked the slippers though. Other than these nothing much to be remembered about. It was still a little disappointing overall for we love to stay in the hotel during holidays but this wasn't exactly a refreshing nor rejuvenating...
Read moreThere are perhaps better and more luxurious hotels in Haikou but the price quality in this hotel is probably the best.
Rooms: We traveled with a child and the kids theme room was very good, lot's attention to detail to make the stay very convenient.
Hotel building, pool, etc: OKish, this is likely the weakest point. Lobby is very nice, but building is somewhat not so modern, pool is too small and only outside. Everything is very clean though. There is also no hotel beach (this is btw the case with almost all hotels in Haikou). Gym also too small. Sound isolation in room from outside could be better as well.
Food: Absolutely amazing. Breakfast in the restaurant is very good with lots of options for everyone's taste. The Chinese restaurant on the lobby floor is mind blowing in food quality, price is also super fair, I absolutely recommend to visit it at least once. The steak house on the top floor is excellent as well (not so common for China for steaks), but i would say it's rather very expensive.
Perhaps point for improvement would be the waiters in restaurants (this applies to all restaurants btw). They were all very friendly and pleasant but too slow and not so competent. But the food was amazing regardless.
Spa: Excellent but very expensive.
Location: probably OK, you can get with taxi pretty much anywhere within 20 minutes. There is also a large shopping mall nearby with all types of...
