I should first clarify that I am an American citizen but I am of Chinese origin and speak fluent Mandarin with the staff. I have noticed that staff in Chinese hotels are almost always well intentioned and eager to help, but can be junior and not very nuanced in English comprehension and expression. With that disclaimer, here is my experience of a 3 night stay at the Doubletree Resort in Chengmai, Hainan. The first impression before arrival was great. Our flight arrived at 1am, so I called the hotel to arrange for a pickup. The call was immediately transferred correctly to the concierge/manager Matthew Zhao. He arranged for a driver to pick up, the driver had a hotel sign and the charge was reasonable. The entire process was smooth and efficient. During the stay the entire staff had a "can do" attitude that was in stark contrast with another hotel (Marriott in Sanya Yalong Bay) that we stayed. When I inquired for laundry detergent for a few hand wash items, Matthew went and bought a bar of soap for us. When I could not find a map of Hainan in nearby shops, the staff found a copy and gave it to us for free. At the checkout, my nine year old daughter received a gift of a stuffed animal (the Alpaca in the nearby Mangrove Reserve) that delighted her. Overall the hotel had beautiful interiors, the pool had wonderful water features for children, and the garden grounds were well kept. But it was the competency and attitude of the staff and the service that was the most impressive. A great value and our first choice if/when we come back to the area. I specially wanted to recommend the onsite Yu Chinese Restaurant. Read moreBeing the gold status member of HILTON HHONORS, we decided to choose this golf resort at Chengmai in Haikou, we received excellent services from the guest manager and also the Chinese master Chef. they take care of all our needs in the entire stay, we also spent a great time at the Chinese restaurant, which the food is superb and excellent values. Apart from the breakfast, we spent both lunch and dinner at this restaurant in both day. the golf course is located only few minutes walk from our room, which the golf course is in an excellent conditions, which we spent two games in two days. the only draw back is the lack of SPA services, however I was told the SPA would open in July, which we will definitely return to this hotel again, and keen to spend few more days for golfing and SPA...
Read moreA WOW welcome when I entered the room. Ice cocktail and beverage setup, flamingos and cookies on the bed, a Sisha pot in the balcony, and a huge teddy bear in the living room! It was also and smile on the FOM that presented it to me. These are all the simple items the hotel had, but the extra effort to display as such made all the difference. ||The hotel itself also put me in a holiday mood with its casa hacienda veranda designs. The kids water features all over the hotel make the hotel an attraction by itself! Investing in those inflatables for the pool, good choice.
