I would definitely give this hotel five stars if the staff members speaking English would not have been non-existent. That caused us a lot of problems in their restaurants, spa, reception, room service etc. The night we arrived we waited room service for over an hour just to find out that the receptionist had not understand our order and we needed to wait yet another hour. So be prepared to have most of the conversations using translator.||However, the hotel itself was very luxurious with an impressive lobby and super spacious rooms with gorgeous views to the city. Location was good too, nearby the Qingcheng park and 20min walking distance from the old district. Breakfast was various but not so many things for a western taste, loved the fresh fruits and egg station though. There was also a pancake station which would have been great if the pancakes were not filled with salad, like why?? :D I tried to ask for a sweet pancake but again, there was a language barrier. We also tried their Shang Palace restaurant, food was okey but once again, no English-speaking waiters.||We also tried the spa where was a decent-sized swimming pool, steam sauna, normal sauna and jacuzzi. The hotel was giving guests swimming hats, without them you cannot enter the pool. The jacuzzi however was useless with water temperature being over 40'c, boiling!! I tried to explain that to the spa personnel but nobody understood English.||Overall I enjoyed our stay and this might even be the best hotel in Hohhot, but please train more staff to...

Read moreI was staying in Hohhot for 2 days with my 9+11 year olds before doing an IM tour. So I decided it was worth paying approx £150 GBP/ $200USD per night for a triple room (SGLa forgot the third bed, but did put it in after much help from my agent who booked the hotel). The room initially smelt of cigarette smoke, but this resolved after leaving the air con on for 2 hours. The windows were so filthy that you didn't want to look out of them, although some window cleaners did abseil down on the last day, much to the fascination of my children - they need doing more frequently though! Breakfast was reasonable and had western options, but the bread was stale, the toaster broken, and the butter only appeared on the second morning. I appreciate we are in IM, and if my hotel cost $80 USD per night I would not expect such high standards of service. The worst thing was that the swimming pool was closed for maintenance - IN THE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS in the MIDDLE OF SUMMER, and worst of all, I only booked 10 days in advance, through an agent, and they did not inform us we would be unable to use the swimming pool. For a Shangri-la I think this is really substandard service. The staff laughed when they showed me the empty pool, whilst I am stood there with 2 disappointed children. This was the only reason I chose to splash out on such an...
