Mild Spring is a wonderful bed & breakfast styled hotel located in the heart of one of Huangshan City’s (Tunxi) old historic shopping streets. The building itself has been renovated but clearly still retains its traditional character. This makes it an outstanding choice for anyone looking for an authentic, traditional Huangshan experience. ||If you are looking to experience traditional Chinese hospitality, then look no further than the owners Mr. Cao and his wife. They are lovely, warm, and incredibly helpful. For foreign visitors, the couple speak basic English (which is not always a given at local B&B’s in Anhui province). While there is a small staff that help with cleaning and housekeeping, the two of them do everything else - receptionist, concierge, porter, and even tea drinking companion. What’s unique is not only the boutique feeling and attention they devote to each guest, but also that they are both natives to Huangshan. And so whether it was authentic food recommendation, or arranging transportation for a day trip to Huangshan, or when to avoid the tourist crowds, they were a great sounding board for how to maximize our visit. And they were spot on with every single one of their tips - what’s a reasonable price for a taxi, or what dishes to try. Given how present they were in the lobby at all hours of the day, we did wonder whether they take turns sleeping!||The rooms come equipped with all the necessities - toiletries, a shower, western style toilet, air conditioning, water bottles, and Chinese + US two-prong power outlets. We had to go down to request certain things (like extra toilet paper) but the staff was always friendly. Breakfast is included and is high quality local sourced home style breakfast items. During our stay, we had fried cruellers, fried sticky rice, congee, meat buns, pumpkin and red bean pastries, yogurt, soy milk, and orange juice. The highlight of breakfast were daily visits from their friendly two cats, Chen Chen and Justin, who roam the building.||Huangshan itself is about a 45-60 min drive north of Huangshan City and Mild Spring. It’s a similar distance to several of the old traditional towns like Hongcun and Xidi. So it’s worth factoring that into travel times in the morning / evening. Staying closer to the mountain, say in Tangkou, is an option but those felt more touristy and commercialized. Mild Spring is located on a pedestrian only street but the main road is only a few short steps away, and taxis are easy to hail from there.||Mild Spring offered us a different experience than a conventional hotel (of which there are a few nearby). We booked two nights and like many great stays, we were sad to check out. We had become accustomed to the warmth of Mr. Cao, his wife, and...
Read moreI traveled to Huangshan at the end of May this year. Highly recommended by my German friend who had stayed at the Hechun Shuxiang Inn in Liyang Town before, I chose to stay there for 6 days and 5 nights. I was deeply impressed with all aspects of its operation. It is located in the center of Liyang Town of HuangSan city. The streets are neat and clean, there are various shops nearby, many gourmet restaurants, and the living functions are excellent. Busy but not noisy, quiet in the hustle and bustle. It takes 5 minutes to walk across the bridge from Tunxi Ancient Town. I think the hotel is in a strategic location that one can explore the nearby attractions or stay put for a lazy afternoon. There are many natural scenic sights , ancient towns and cultural spots within a radius of 70 kilometers. There is a river named Xin'an River nearby where I took a liking to walk after dinner. The water is clear. The trails along the river are neatly maintained and lined with trees. The owner Mr. Cao has a strong background in tourism, so he fully understands and takes care of the needs of their guests. The hotel's architecture and interior are full of Chinese elements, reminiscent of a historical inn. Mr. Cao’s family grow tea at the foot of Huangshan Mountain, so he makes home grown tea to share with guests at night. The room rate is very affordable and the CP ratio is absolutely remarkable . I highly recommend this hotel to travelers who are interested in visiting the Huangshan area. BTW they offer excellent breakfast in local flavor.|Liam Wang...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for two nights as our base to visit the famous Yellow Mountains (Huangshan). The hotel is favorably located within the bustling historic district, rich with restaurants and shops. The owners speak English, so we had no communication issues. I must say, the owners are very kind and helpful. They assisted us with transportation to and from the Huangshanbei railway station and meticulously helped plan our excursion to Huangshan Mountain, arranging private transport at a reasonable price. The hotel’s style is charming and very characteristic, impeccably clean, and our room had everything we needed. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with freshly brewed green tea, which we greatly appreciated. The owners also recommended the best restaurants where we could try the local cuisine. The breakfast offered at the hotel is simple yet satisfying. Adding to the charm of the place are three large, gentle cats that make the atmosphere even more enchanting. However, be mindful if you are allergic. For payment, I advise organizing with AliPay (widely used throughout China) and settling the bill the night before (due possible internet connection issue), if you’re in a hurry to check out. As a token of their generosity, the owners gifted us two lovely packages of tea leaves upon our departure. If you seek a calm, relaxing, and problem-free stay, I highly recommend this...
