A relaxing hot springs experience in a mountainous area reminds me of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, USA, without the souvenir cluster and traffic.
The room was spacious and full of amenities to include a hot springs fed balcony tub offering a magnificent view of the surrounding cloud covered mountains again reminiscent of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
This location was both family-friendly and romantic simultaneously. Plenty of private, cozy, soaking pools sequestered in alcoves on the mountainside. There are plenty of activities for families to enjoy too.
The evening buffet was a plethora of traditional and local Chinese favorite dishes, but the parade of the roasted whole hog was a memorial event. Starting with a loud proclamation, the hog was paraded thru the dining hall with great flourish and accompanied with horns, drums, and gongs played by performers in traditional period dress. Trailing the profession was a golden lion familiar to many who have experienced a Chinese procession.
Later, while the hog was being flayed, a couple of musicians swith piano and guitar started singing some notable American tunes. First was a magnificent rendition of Tennessee Waltz, and having lived in Tennessee for many years, brought back a warm feeling of home. But when this couple started singing Country Roads by John Denver, I hit my stride and joined the chorus much to the delight of the band and the diners around our table. Great fun was had by all.
