We traveled to the Xishuangbanna Crowne Plaza with our kids in December 2020. The hotel is a little outside of town, but 15-20 minute walk from the Wanda mall so there are also lots of food delivery options. We booked our rooms using IHG points and two of our three rooms were upgraded to the club floor and we were given free breakfast as IHG Platinum members. Comparing our rooms, there is no discernible difference between the upgraded rooms and standard rooms. All the room sizes (except suites) are listed at 43 square meters. The club lounge is also closed at the moment. It was fine for us because we just used points, but if we had paid for an upgrade, we'd have felt cheated.||||The outdoor pool is really the center piece of the hotel and we made good use of it despite the chilly mornings. We liked having places to sit around the pool. The pool is in the open, so it gets plenty of sun, but there are umbrellas for shade. The wooden walkways around the pool are in horrible disrepair, however. There are rotten areas, replaced boards which are different sizes, and nails sticking out. I'd suggest that management get this replaced ASAP.||||The kids club really is just a room with a few plastic toys- no staff, no crafts, no entertainment. Any kid over 4 years old would probably be bored in 5 minutes. ||||The hotel gave us breakfast which was wonderful. During peak times, they struggled to refill the buffet and seat all the guests. Perhaps some extra seating in the lobby during peak times would help.||||In-room coffee is a big deal for me, but the Crowne Plaza just has instant coffee. This seems to be common among even supposed high-end brands. Maybe they could have a Nespresso machine available on request for the guests that would like better coffee.||||The staff's friendliness stood out- all of them would proactively greet us and were very friendly. It felt quite different than some other cities in China. Overall, we were really happy with our stay and would recommend it to other families looking for a getaway...
Read moreI am an IHG member. I've received a little more from other IHG hotels, but I have not big complaints. ||||The Good: I arrived at 11am and they gave me a room no problem. I was higher up and while my balcony view was obstructed, the view out my front door was better. The cleaning staff was very attentive. There were two manager-looking men who responded to me in English during meals (sorry I didn't get their names! I'm terrible with names!). The pool was fantastic. Honestly, had just wanted to chill and this was the place.||||The Bad: Most staff couldn't speak English which is fine, but caused some delays especially when I was looking for help to get a covid test for my flight back to Beijing. Breakfast was generally fine, but some days better than others. Bacon 2/9 mornings I was there, pepperoni the first day and then never again. Some days with orange juince, some days with "pine apple" juice (it's not apple juice). ||||Not enough deck chairs by the pool. With 100s of rooms, they had 18 deck chairs. You also had to walk a long way to the back of the building to get towels. No drinks served at the pool as well. As busy and wonderful as it was, the pool area was neglected of service. ||||Ostriches and peacocks in cages and tied to their tether in reception. Unacceptable. I can handle everything else I've said, but seeing these poor creatures in captivity while I was trying to relax really hurt the vibe. I hope IHG puts a stop to this, because otherwise I would...
Read moreFirst of all, Xishuangbanna is a really nice place for families. You can enjoy the warm weather and sunshine even during the winter. It is really a wanderful place for we northerners. My daughter have never seen selva, so she became so exciting when she saw the tall trees and so many lovely animals. ||Then we get back to the hotel topic. This hotel is a typical resort, it has nice outdoor swimming pool and outdoor children's entertainment facilities, and every single room has its own balcony. I love the Children's theme suite very much, it has a pup tent, a lovely bistratal children's bed and many animal dolls. We can see so many little details that reflect the theme of children, such as the kid's slippers, little closestool, elephant tap and so on. ||Another highlight of this hotel is the executive lounge, which is really beyond our expectation. In my opinion, resort hotels rarely have lounges, but CrownedPlaza Xishuangbanna opened the lounge specially for their guests to enjoy the afternoon tea and happy hour during Spring Festival. And point is both of these meals are very sumptuous. ||Finally, I have to praise the GRM Lessing Duan in the executive lounge. She is a kind, lovely and enthusiastic girl. When she knows our filght is in the late afternoon, she initiative puts us in the executive lounge after checking out and chat with us with many local customs. It...
