Had business in JinZhou and the Sheraton hotel was recommended. Upon entering the very tall building dressed up with Christmas in the lobby. In center of the city, a large mall across the street and government center behind the property, one could expect greatness from a Sheraton. ||||Booked a standard room and due to status was upgraded to a corner two room suite, #1716. Well lit and lots of room to relax or work. Two suites per floor as photo of the layout shows. ||||Was offered a welcome basket and told it would be delivered to room right now. After waiting a short while and being kinda tired from my day. I turned on the DND light, which is visible from a good distance down the hall, to take a short nap before supper. When I awoke I found the welcome fruit basket in the foyer. Several times during my stay with DND illuminated, there was a knock at the door by hotel employees for one thing or another. Read, DND light is not respected. ||||Spoke with front office manger, Jacky, who informed me the building was eight years old and the hotel has been open six years. There are dedicated floors for SPG guests. Dedicated smoking and non-smoking floors and rooms. Several residential floors above that, according to sign in elevator. With a sky lounge and club lounge for SPG guests. Both closed due to renovation I was told. SPG club lounge is in the ground floor bar with very limited services. ||||Room 1716 was hot, 25 degrees C, so I tried to adjust temp to cool but the environmental system is set to heat in the winter. Assume government controls the flow of hot / cold water for environmental systems like in Bulgaria. Opened the two windows and by second day the room cooled enough to my sleeping preference. Can’t fault Hotel for that. ||||After close examination I learned that the room had been a honeymoon suite for some lucky couple. Chinese wedding blessing still affixed to door separating living and bedroom. (See picture) Guess this room is used a wedding suite a lot as there is tape residue and bits of tape remaining on both sides of sliding pocket door and probably never closed during housekeeping duties. ||||Big plate glass windows with view of city and public square. Really nice until you see all the smegma on the inside of the window. (See pictures). ||||Well this really peeked my attention and curiosity so I started looking around and found busted red ballon sticking out from leg of chair, clearly visible without stooping. (See picture).||||Pulled the couch away from the wall and found “something”, not sure what it was. But it wasn’t original to the building I’m sure. (See picture).||||Took a close look at the carpet and found all sorts of debris. Especially along the sides and under the chair in the bedroom. Looks as if the chair hasn’t been moved since installation six years ago. ||||At the very visible side of the nightstand near the back leg on the floor was a used condom. (See picture).||||Under the bed, a place that housekeeping never looks, I found other bits of ballon, and plastic laundry cover. Sure it would be found at next renovation. ||||The suite has a really nice hard surface floor in the foyer but it too is very dirty. The easiest place to clean, but not here for some reason. (See pictures). ||||Wonderful bathroom layout with glass surround toilet, separately glass walled shower, and a big free standing modern two person bathtub. Two sink bowls with a well lit area and a large dirty mirror. ||The shower water pulses in pressure, and hot water takes a while to get there, so start it before you get ready to jump in. Also might want to wear some safety shoes of some sort as there is black mold growing in the corners. (See pictures).||||Informed management of these findings and I truly hope this results in improvements for...
Read moreThe Sheraton Jinzhou is probably the best hotel in Jinzhou. It is certainly the tallest hotel here. I was so surprised that several of the staff spoke English, being that Jinzhou is a small town. Janice Zhang was a very nice employee and she was so friendly to me each morning during breakfast. ||The rooms are nicely appointed. The review from the guy several years ago (from Yoakum) is somewhat true. The hotel isn’t in tip top shape. However, I feel that hotels in the USA have similar issues (not perfectly clean, mold, etc).||I had two issues during my stay. One was that the room was way too hot. The first night, the room was 80 degrees and I couldn’t sleep at all. When I returned the next day, the room was 85 degrees. No joke. The hotel personnel swore that the heat was from the sun, but I am almost certain that the heat system was malfunctioning. The heat system is difficult to turn off (you have to hold down the power button for five to ten seconds). Had I known this little trick, I could have cut off the heat myself the first night. The second room they gave me was better and not as hot. However, the shower in that room leaked in two places and after my shower, the bathroom was flooded with water. ||Overall, the Sheraton Jinzhou is a...
Read morePreviously we had stayed at local hotels in Jinzhou when we visited family in the surrounding area. This time we decided to stay at the Sheraton and what a pleasant surprise. This hotel is newer and modern. The deluxe room is spacious and comfortable. The wifi in the room works reasonably well and the lan line is good, too. The bed is a little soft, but for many western people that's a good thing. The room has a nice tub and a shower, with Jack and Jill sinks. The room has a small refrigerator and a safe in the closet. The breakfast buffet was delicious with many choices of western, Japanese and local cuisine. (The donut was the closest thing to an American donut I've had in China. :) ) The staff has been very professional and pleasant throughout the hotel. Although, I am not able to enjoy swimming on this trip the pool looks wonderful. If you pass through Jinzhou this hotel is definitely the best in the city. (we stayed in room 820...it was near the elevators but quiet and was a...
