Empark Grand Hotel — Hotel in Kunming

Stay here for one night on a business trip. The room is quite large and well-appointed. The bathroom especially is very attractive with a inset bath and separate large shower. It's possible to lie in the bath and look out through a large window. ||The Wi-Fi is fast and free.||Now on to the things I did not like about the room. I could not get the air conditioning to cool the room down sufficiently. Even after switching it on and turning the temperature down and turning the fan up, the room still felt stuffy. However it was possible to open the window and the cool nights in Kunming are a blessing.||They don't have any international power sockets so you need to have an adapter unless you have Chinese plugs. Only one of the shower heads worked, I could not get the rain shower shower head to work. ||The mattresses are extremely firm Chinese ones. ||The breakfast buffet is quite nice with mostly Chinese food and a small section of Western buffet. There is no Japanese, Korean or Indian style food at breakfast, though.||Staff are quite nice with people able to communicate in English...

The hotel is well located right on the lake. The room is on the smallish side for the price. We took an executive room, which gave access to the club lounge. My biggest gripe is actually this. The description in the room goes, swift check-in and out, personalized service, tea hour and so on. The fact is, it's situated on the first floor not ground. So we checked in as usual. Because the breakfast is offered at the ground floor, you've got trouble to go deliberately upstairs to ask something. Well, poorly organized. Also, if we went there to ask something, the clerks tried to send us downstairs. On our departure, they indeed sent us to the ground floor for a check-out. What is the club lounge for then? Over all, the staff have a very limited English command but they try their level best. That's one...

..in the hotel.||Some people below have written critical reviews of the hotel rooms, but I must have hit the jackpot. I only needed a room for little old me, but I got a magnifcient room - suite, really - with a full living room, a balcony, and two bathrooms. Fifteenth floor - get it!||||Drawback to the room - for some reason, the heat jacks on something awful at 4am...even with my thermostat set to cool.||||Food - The breakfast buffet is unreal. GET THE SOUP. I'll be dreaming about that all the way home. The dinner buffet is a letdown - I'm not convinced all of the seafood is fresh.
