Xin Sheng Da Hong Sheng International Hotel — Hotel in Kunming

When you go to a 5-star hotel you know that it has all the necessary hardware to claim its status. What really makes the difference is the service. When you have a problem with your room or when you need help getting around, you want the staff to be there for you. That's exactly what the staff has done for me, from the receptionist to the waiters.||||The room is well equipped, clean and spacious, with WiFi access. The restaurant is great with both international and local food. The breakfast buffet is amazingly rich in taste and variety.||||The location is a bit far from the downtown area but is within walking distance to the subway station. Cosy accommodation but poor service. I found the hair dryer was out of order (no heat/hot air). Our tour guide has also made verbal connection with the information desk. However they just sent a middle aged woman ( looks like providing room cleaning service) come to have a look and replying that all hair dryers in the hotel are same as what I have and without hot air ejection. Next morning I consulted with our team members (actually we have 8 relatives in the same travel) and found that they are all supplied with normal hair dryers. I stayed at this hotel as part of a chinese tour group that costs $99. It is a great, first class hotel with a great gift shop, great facilities like gym, spa, massage, and many restaurants. Elevators can be slow, especially when many tour groups of 50+ are staying at this hotel at any given day.||||The only bad part is that it is far from the city center. Taxi rides are expensive, and the rail is 15 min of walking. Also, outside of the hotel, is not the prettiest area, kind of like outskirts...
