I was dreading coming here because of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Don't be taken in by the vast modern looking lobby. This is a pretty old fashioned basic hotel. ||The 10th floor is non smoking and was very quiet when I stayed three nights. The passages are gloomy, with lighting that reminded me of the hotel I stayed in in Pyongyang - low wattage and something from bygone eras. The bed is comfortable, though the buckwheat pillows are a bit of a menace. There are others, though. The back is far quieter than the front, which looks out onto a major road, where hooting is unlike anything you may have previously heard. ||||You are given vouchers for two 'free' meals a day. The food ain't that great, but for dinner, with fresh noodles and Beijing duck, together with the endless flow of red wine, it is worth staying in. If you get there early, you can compete with the locals for plates of fresh prawns. ||||The massage seems reasonable, till you go to the health centre and discover you have to pay another 68 kuai for a sauna ticket. I gave it a miss. ||||Staff don't really speak English, but one of the managers did, and was helpful. Overall I found it fine, and...
Read moreLet's start with the fact that is it a 5-star hotel... That's it! It is the only merit of that place||Knowledge of English - d+||Service - e-||Rooms - b+||We heard NOT A WORD of apology (I don't even mention any compromise) on the following cases: ||On check in, first, we were told that it is impossible to check in only with one passport (I forgot mine) and there is no way to get the information on me from my previous stay archive nor bring my passport in the evening. Later, in the evening, we were told that the police want to see us, we told that we don't want to talk with the pocile. The manager gave no care to it and called them asking to come. Their flock soon came flashing their flashlight into our eyes and asking questions. You can imagine how we felt (I'll spare you avoiding colorful depictions of the emotions we experienced). We also asked him to prepare registration documents ahead of time because we would be in rush in the morning. I spent 50 minutes in the morning waiting for them. When I complained to the morning shift manager about that he just looked at me not understanding what I was saying / giving no dam. And all these adventures are only for the...
Read moreI would not recommend staying here- The lobby is nice but beyond that, there isn't anything positive to say. The hallways are dark, the air conditioning in our room did not work properly. The bathroom was not very clean and on the first day there was no water for over an hour. There was only 1 person that we could find that spoke English so it was hard to communicate. The breakfast is terrible and it is very dirty. ||There is also a restaurant owned by this hotel across the parking lot. Do not eat there either as it is dirty and it smells like rotten meat and fish. The food there is terrible- several of us were sick after our stay.||The reason we stayed at this hotel is because my son's wedding was here- the meal that they provided to the guests for the wedding was absolutely horrible and embarrassing. My daughter-in- law was so disappointed. She should be refunded the thousands of dollars she spent on the meal. ||If you are in this area to visit Beijing, this would not be a good place to stay as it is very far from the city. It costs about $50.00 US to take a cab into the city. There are many hotels in Beijing that are nicer and more convenient for...
