We've had a week in a standard room and have decided to extend an extra day. I'm including an FAQ that so many guests ask for. But first its worth saying that having never been to spa I was nervous about a whole week but it's been hugely relaxing. The hot spring next door has 80+ springs (though 20% ish are under maintenance at any one point). The staff are very attentive and friendly and the location is really nice nestled into the hillside. ||FAQ|- only a few of the staff speak English so an English/Chinese app on you phone is well worth having|- internet access is good across the hotel |- hot-spring access is 12 noon to 12 noon following day and costs 100RMB|- restaurant is from 5.30-8.30pm and food is delicious (especially cauliflower) - fish menu looks wide but each day we had it they only had one type. Perch delicious, catfish not so much.|- the swimming pool is 'just for view' and doesn't open. This is a shame as although the hot-spring is next door there is no lap pool|- Tangshan town is an easy 20 mins walk and you can take a taxi back|- if taking train back to Shanghai you need to leave an hour to get back to Nanjing and some time ahead of the train|- wine is a rarity here and expensive in the hotel - we went to town and bought our own when two nights running they'd run out of white wine|- smoking is permitted pretty much everywhere but the hot-spring so careful when selecting a table in the restaurant (we're not smokers)|- there are no spirits here so if you fancy a gin and tonic you'll need to bring it - none in town too|- no diet drinks, but regular coke and sprite are available|- mini bar means two cans of coke and sprite|- there are bikes to hire and nice cycle paths on some of the roads|- there's plenty of Mosquitos at night so bring repellent|- hot-spring at night are great though see last point - they are open until midnight|- breakfast finishes at 9.30am|- there is a 'fishes nibble your feet' spring|- food is pretty limited in the hot-spring to eggs, sausages and (sort of) ice cream||All in all its a very nice, reasonably priced spa in a nice setting. Nearby there are more luxury spas but without the variety of the hot-spring right next...
Read moreThe hot springs are absolutely gorgeous. Soaking in these aromatic pools with hot water constantly flowing into them is the most relaxing thing you can imagine. We went there in the early afternoon and stayed until 9 pm, and there were not many people, especially at the end of the day. It was extremely clean. Fresh towels and drinks are provided; as many as you wish. Service is excellent and makes you feel like a celebrity. If hungry, you can have a meal at the restaurant - we had a relatively expensive, but very good, meal. ||||We took an orange bath, coffee bath, milk bath, wine bath, jasmine bath and many other (about 50 to choose from)… There was also a bath with Turkish fish ‘doctor fish’ that feed on your skin, a little scary, but worth trying. At the end we had a relaxing lie on a heated floor, it was amazing and sooo relaxing.||||Location is a disadvantage, especially if you don’t have a car. It is a 40 minutes’ drive from the centre of Nanjing. We had a problem with coming back – asked a receptionist to call a taxi, for which we waited 20 minutes and had to agree to pay 140 yuan for our way back to Nanjing. It was after 9 pm so we had no real choice but to accept it. Getting there cost us 96 yuan, and we met a very honest driver, who after driving for 15 minutes admitted that he didn’t know how to get to the place and refused to go. However, he did not charge us, and helped us get another taxi.||The whole trip is not the cheapest (the cost of getting there; a meal 58 yuan; plus the entrance fee of 218 yuan per person), but definitely...
