Jingli Hotel — Hotel in Nanjing City

I lived in Nanjing for a year and have since returned a handful of times. I stayed in a number of different hotels before finding this gem. The rooms are spacious, modern, and beautifully appointed. The staff, from the front desk to the doorman to the cleaning people are unfailingly polite, warm, and helpful. The breakfast buffets are sumptuous and included in the room rate. The only cautionary note is that the laundry rates are ridiculously high. However, there are a number of laundries on the campus of Nanjing University that are very good and inexpensive and only about a two minute walk from the hotel. About two to three US dollars (15 rmb) for a full load. Slightly more for ironing or dry cleaning. Just wander on to campus and ask a student for directions. Loved this hotel, and would very likely return if I were to go back to Nanjing. Make sure that you book online though. We called and they said it was 1000 RMB for their standard room. When booking online it was about 430 RMB (incl tax), and they refused to give us that price when we called. Beds were super comfortable and liked the rooms a lot, which has more character than your average hotel. The reception staff were really cold and unhelpful (bordering rude), without fail, two days in a row. Shame, all the other staff (from the cleaning lady to the person taking care of the restaurant area and the doorman) were super friendly. Would have given this place 5 stars otherwise.
