I stayed in Four Points by Sheraton Qindao, Chengyang for 4 days with my family.
With regard to the room condition, it was good and clean. But I could find several hairs under the sink cap in the bathtub, which was very disgusting. You can easily miss that small part but it can give an indelible bad image to the guest.
As for hotel staffs, I just want to give only one star to them. I could communicate wth them in English but it was quite difficult to make them understand what I wanted to say. When I asked if there is any place to use the internet service over the phone in my room, someone said "Yes" and I should go to the gym on the 2nd floor, but I couldn't find any computer there. When I asked a lady in the front desk if I could exchange Korean won to Chinese Won, she said yes. Then I brought some Korean won to the front desk later, the other lady said "No". When I asked something in English on the phone in my room, the lady who answered the phone spent a lot of time understanding my English and then she connected me with the other lady who can speak in English fluently. What a waste of time!
The worst thing about the hotel was staff's service in the breakfast buffet restaurant. On the very first day, I had to pay for both of my kids' breakfast. The elder one is 6 years old and the younger one is 3 years old. On the second day, the other lady insisted that I should pay only for my kid who is 6 years old. On the third day, I could see both staffs I could encounter for the past two days then they made me pay for only one kid. When I showed the receipt which I got on the first day, they seemed to discuss in Chinese. Then they told me that I should pay for my two kids but it will be a kind of reward or compensation to make me pay for one kid. What a nonsense! Before I showed the receipt of the first day's breakfast, they decided to make me pay for only one kid. Then when I complained about their confusing kid's meal policy, they just told me that giving 3-year-old girl a free meal can be a reward. When I asked the other lady (who seemedto be a manager) to show me the kid's meal policy, she coudln't find anything to make sure if it was right. In the enld, they offered free meals for my kids on that day as an excuse for their confusing meal policy, but I felt very bad about it. It's very true that i should follow the hotel rules while I'm staying. I just wanted to know what's the policy in that restaurant and why the policy fluctuates every day. If they made a mistake, they just could say "Sorry" without saying a...
Read moreIn the last ten years, I frequently visited China for both business and personal reasons, and SPG properties were always my first choice if available. In general, SPG has more properties covering many cities than other major chains, and most new hotels are designed as either 5-star or 4-star hotels, much better than their US counterpart under the same brand. The breakfast selections and club lounges are usually better as well. The staff is generally polite, but sometime lack of enough training due to high turnover rates, especially right after the Chinese New Year. Over the time, some area also show the signs of deterioration due to either poor original construction quality, abuse from guests, or lack of maintenance. Most hotels were very successful in attracting domestic business events and tourists, or local events such as wedding. As the results, the lobby area and the restaurant sometime were desirable to foreign business travelers. The worst cases would be the arrival /departure time of a Chinese tour bus. As elite member, I usually receive extra perks such as room upgrade and late checkout. I know what to expect and what are their limitations, as such I seldom write any reviews. What prompt me for this review was a very small favor, out of the kindness of a staff member, which was totally beyond my expectation. During this recent stay, I forgot to ask for late checkout at check-in. The next day morning, I stopped by the front desk on the way to breakfast. Since it was the morning peak hour, all 4 counters were occupied by the guests checking-out. A young lady came to me and politely asked how she could help, I just gave her my room number and said I would come back after the breakfast to update my room key. The breakfast area was huge and selections were plentiful. What really surprised me was that the lady from front desk actually searched the entire breakfast area in order to deliver me a new room key programmed for 4pm checkout. I was a little shocked and quickly remembered her name- Serena. At a later time, I was served again by Serena at the club lounge. As my appreciation for Serena's exceptional guest service, i decided to write this review. Small thing like this shows the true characters, and it made a huge difference for my future hotel selection in Qingdao area. This hotel has many attractive aspects: near the airport, reasonable rates, more business travelers with a large population from Korea, next to a shopping complex, etc. And now, a group of caring staff...
Read moreI frequently travel to Qingdao for business, and usually stay at downtown Le Meridian. I noticed this new hotel near airport and decided to give it a try. Based on their website, this hotel offers free shuttle bus from/to airport, and I did reserve the airport pickup. It was an easy 10 minutes ride from airport to hotel, and got a free upgrade to a suite.
Although my overall stay exceed my expectation, given this hotel is only a Cat-2 level hotel, there are several areas can be easily improved:
Club Lounge: Unlike other SPG club lounges, this lounge is only open during breakfast and afternoon tea/cocktail. There is no way to get a cold drink for all other time. The selection for breakfast is much better than most club lounges, which offers almost identical dishes when comparing to the main restaurant downstairs. However, the staff would not offer you any coffee or tea unless you asked, and on average three to four dishes share one serving utensil.
Airport shuttle service: When reserving the shuttle service back to airport, I was told that they only have limited bus services, and the earliest one is @ 10:00am (and the latest one is @8:00pm). The current webpage is very misleading, especially to travelers like me who used to stay at a typical airport hotel. They did recommend me to use their paid service, which cost from $25 or higher for a private car ride, while a taxi ride costs less than $2. So I asked them to call a Taxi. What a mistake, the taxi cab was very dirty, the cab driver was rude to pedestrian and other drivers, and the cab dangerously cut through some narrow neighborhood roads. Although the hotel has no control over the taxi service, it is very easy for me to link my overall hotel stay with this bad taxi experience. I hope this hotel will improve their shuttle service to encourage the return guests. Per my experience, the ride from airport to downtown is much pleasant since the airport is easy accessible from the freeway.
Other information may be helpful: The hotel is next to a major shopping center with many local restaurants and a Wal-Mart style supermarket, and also next to a large city park. However, the overall environment is very dirty, and seem like it is an active construction site, and it...
