I rarely give a 5 star rating - but I think this hostel deserves it. We had a comfortable 5-night stay in this hostel. We stayed in the guest room (double bed), and the room was very clean. Although the toilet was a bit small, the room and toilet was overall well-maintained. On our 1st day, one of the lights were not working, so the room was a bit dark - but the staff immediately fixed it the next day. Service was amazing and the staff would warmly explain the different attractions, and how to walk there.
Location: within walking distance to St Michael's Cathedral and Zhanqiao Pier. Also walkable to University Street and other attractions. It's within a 5min walk to the nearest subway station as well. The only thing is the hotel is located on a hill, although not super steep, so doable with luggages.
Breakfast is at the L1 cafe, and the food was the best part of our stay, especially the egg's benedict. You get to choose between Western-style 6-8 sets (with a side of salad & orange juice), and we tried one every day - we never got tired or disappointed with the food.
Amenities: there's a laundry room, a meeting room, and even a air conditioned room to chill around with books or games, with a nice balcony overseeing the city and the cathedral views (would be nice to sit here with a beer in the evening).
The only minor downside: since this hostel is renovated from an old historic building, there are no lifts. Our room was on the highest 3rd floor, and you may need to carry your baggage up (the staff kindly offered to bring it up for us the first day). If you are wheelchair bound or limited in terms of mobility, might not be a good idea to stay here.
Overall really enjoyed...
Read moreI would definitely recommend this hotel. We were in a king size room. The room was clean and comfortable, with new, stylish design. Bedding was cozy and the bed was sort of soft (as far as Chinese beds go!) The bathroom was really clean and newly-fitted. The place has more a feel of a hotel than a hostel, but great for friends traveling together. There are lots of welcoming public places in the hotel - a lounge and small terrace at the top, bright seating areas on each floor, and a large bar and restaurant on the ground floor. Our room came with vouchers for breakfast and coffee each morning (I had a full-English breakfast - slightly cold but nice), a bottle of red wine for one night of our stay, and a free cocktail each for each night. I think the more expensive your room is the more freebies you get. The bar/restaurant is a nice place to relax in the evenings, and has table-football and a pool table. We visited during a Chinese public holiday and the hotel seemed full but it was quiet in our room and we saw other guests in the bar, but it never felt too crowded. You can order a range of drinks and western meals in the bar, or 2 minutes down the road from the hotel is a street full of little restaurants selling fresh seafood and dumplings at affordable prices. It's about 20 minutes walk to the coast, and the area seemed good for us. I really liked...
Read moreThis has to be one of the best hostels I've stayed in. Really great value for money especially as you get vouchers for breakfast and some free drinks at the bar. Our room was large, clean and comfortable with a nice decor. The bathroom in our room was a little dated (our friends paid a bit more for a King-sized room and they had a newer, modern bathroom so they must be updating them all gradually). The hostel is in an old baptist chapel and the style and decor of the whole building is lovely. The bar in the basement of the hostel is great with good food and drinks on offer and a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast is only served from 8am which means if you have an early start you can't have breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. I hugely recommend staying at this...
