I’d like to rate Wyndham Grand Qingdao for 3+||||Due to some unpleasant memory during my stay at the Hilton years ago, I chose Wyndham Grand Qingdao this time for a business trip. Comparing with Hilton nearby, Wyndham Grand Qingdao is much closer to the beach although you still have to cross a road. So if you are a beach goer, the hotel is more convenient. The hotel is also more family oriented and it is very considerate to prepare three pairs of slippers including one for child, for which I hate to give the hotel for 3+. The deluxe room with sea view on the 9th floor I stayed in was quite spacious and with good condition though it was not a newly opened hotel. ||||However, I have to compare the hotel with other five stars and apparently it fell behind in two major fields. One was the breakfast. Staff were there busy doing something else you didn’t understand and definitely not serving. Food varieties and quality was not typical five star. Asking for an omelet costed you forever. Something I called management was missing at the main Café apparently. This was even the LOW SEASON and I couldn’t imagine what a mess it could be in the summer. The other one was the TV channels. This was my first time in a five-star hotel in which I could only watch domestic TV channels, though interestingly they printed some, not many definitely, international channels on the TV guide card. You just lost your score to even four star hotels.||||In summary, the location was good, service not so much. If the hotel could improve the service, it could be a good choice for family beach vacation in the...
Read moreThis is our second stay at the Wyndham Grand Hotel Qingdao. We visited for two days in March and returned for two months this time, August and September. My daughter is here to attend school and train for sailing. She speaks a little Mandarin. I don’t speak any. The staff at the Wyndham Hotel have treated us like royalty. From the moment we planned this trip they reached out to us to see how they could make our stay more comfortable and convenient. We travel constantly for my daughters sailing all over the world and we have never experienced more attentive and caring staff than here at the Wyndham. We must have a team of 10-15 who take care of us on a daily basis from a driver, Butler, catering staff, front desk help and any thing we require is taken care of. The manager even took my daughter to her school orientation and paid her school fees as well. The hotel itself is massive. Over 500 rooms. Very clean, comfortable and modern. The rooms are large with lovely bathrooms. The coastline view outside is stunning. There is an amazing jogging, walking, bike path between the hotel and the ocean which is extensive. We haven’t tried the indoor or outdoor pools but they look clean and inviting. There is also a great gym on the ground floor with lots of natural light and not like typical hotel gyms in the basement. The breakfast and dinner buffet have both Western and Chinese options which are vast and great. We highly recommend this hotel and have enjoyed our extended stay here and don’t...
Read moreThe website is misleading, it states 518 rooms all with a sea view, this is not correct, you may have a sea view if you are on an upper floor (rooms range from 3rd to 8th fl) but all you can see from any rooms on the 3rd floor are trees or foliage covering any sea view. ||||In general:||Rooms poorly maintained loose fittings, lots of mould in shower recess, cracked tiles, dirt along floor crevices, worn and stained floorboards at entry. Marks on white vinyl sofa and chair.||||The Hotel is not that old but looks worn and dated. The external lift indicator lights don't appear to work on any of the floors either so you don't know if the lift is going up or down. Just plain annoying and again poor maintenance. While the service and food is okay its nothing special and in the bar they have no idea how to serve a drink, certainly in my case a thimble size amount of spirit is not worth the cost. ||||The only saviour is the pleasant and caring demeanor of the staff, but I believe this may the style of the...
