My family and I stayed for 3 nights and was not very pleased with the hotel services. The location of the hotel was just opposite a river, and rooms facing the river had a beautiful scenery. However, it was extremely warm and stuffy, even during winter. ||Whereas, rooms facing the other side was freezing cold. It seems like you have 2 extreme different sides to choose from... During winter (december), I was told from the house keeping staff that the hotel is being switched entirely to the warmer mood. Hence, there was no way we could get air-con in the room. ||The rooms felt a little dusty, channels in the room are only limited to their national telecasts. Hence, it is not recommended to westerners that are visiting this city. The staff at the concierge and through the line were not able to communicate in english well. Hence, they greet and talk in mandarin or at times, cantonese. ||All rooms seems to be all smoking rooms as there were ashtrays placed in every corner, despite the fact that I was given a non-smoking room.||Room service was poor. As I have ordered a sandwich, but when delivered, the whole dish was fried and oily. Even the bread was fried as well. ||There are not much shops / supermarkets nearby the hotel, although there are some shops at the lobby. There is also a night club right beside the hotel, which could be unsafe for kids to walk past in the evening or night time. Read moreThis is a 4/5 star hotel spoilt by very poor service and lack of international language capability. My stay here was marred by the language barrier and had it not been for having a couple of Chinese speakers in our party to help me the stay would have been a disaster. Things as simple as getting a second room card, getting laundry picked up or getting my suitcase, (which had been lost in transit but had been delivered to the hotel), out of storage were so difficult it was almost funny.||||Qingyuan is a pretty city close to some amazing scenery and undoubtably will grow to be a tourism hub but not until it can make its hotels more internationally friendly. This hotel is one of the flagship establishments, the rooms are comfortable, (I had a suite), with good quality fit-out that certainly is of 4 star international quality. The living room of the suite had very little furniture in it and was I suspect really a bedroom with the bed removed. The free buffet breakfast was biased towards Chinese food but I guess this is to be expected as Qingyuan is still really a non cosmopolitan city.
