We decided to stop at Beidaihe Qinhuangdao as the bullet train ride from Beijing to Shenyang would have been 5 hours. ||We made several items to reach the hotel on multiple occasions but was clearly missed out and finally was able to establish contact and was told that they had restricted emails coming in due to overwhelming spam emails! ||The management made good service recovery by offering return transportation from the 15 mins Beidaihe Bullet train station. ||First the pros. The property is really quite stunning, with many restaurants around a 20 min walk away, with the also Olympic park just opposite and several so called theme parks nearby (close during winter period). The entire hotel is really quite grand with high ceilings and classic decor, a nice touch was the love birds which was quite innovative and added some vitality to the lobby. ||Rooms appear spacious and also very well appointed with lush greens occasionally placed to spruce the room! ||Nice gym and indoor pool with a kids section that seemed quite entertaining, rarely seen in many hotels!||Now moving to the cons. It’s low season and they decided to close the restaurant and the reason was because it was too “cold”. And where do they move the restaurant to? The executive lounge which was really a great cost management strategy but makes the lounge all so “non-Executive”, with steaming hot pot brewing etc. ||But what really surprises me the most is the great care and concern for their staff, which allows their duty manager to have their meals (hot pot) in the Executive Lounge during cocktail hours. I’m all in for care and welfare for associates but I’m sure there is a proper dining area for staff instead of the lounge as it is weird seeing the staff seated with the full spread and in clear view of not only guests but also other associates. ||I think that there is a real need to review its current processes and to relook in maintaining...

However we realized as a Sheraton hotel in that type of small tourist city its ranked out of top 10 on Tripadvisor, there must be a reason.||The disappointment started from first impression, we drove in the car park it was a mess, vehicles parked all over but just not in parking slots, no one tells you where to find space, not to mention helps with your luggage... and that was 3pm in the afternoon no any hotel staff at the door/car park.||Checkin was slow - but I am fine with it since the lady was a trainee she need some practice and she was very kind, the other ladies at reception desk were just concentrated on their mobile phones, and every time we passing by they just did the same.||Room was spacious and clean, bathroom with big shower. Fridge was empty almost at room temperature, cheap tea and coffee, cheap bathroom amenities. Bath linen in poor quality, gray color and very stiff, been washed for 5 years... Only thing to remind me I am in a Sheraton was the logos and SPG channel on TV... ||Our room with a construction view (just about 100 meters away), workers start at 7am every day, then the lovely construction noise will stay the whole day until dark. However the cleaning staff on our floor was well trained and super friendly, she smiled and greeted us every time.||Fresh coffee machines were available at breakfast but coffee bean amount per grounding was way too low, I don’t have to describe food at breakfast I believe readers will figure out after all above...||Overall not value for money and would definite try other even local hotel brands when travel to...
