Grand Soluxe Hotel & Resort Sanya — Hotel in Sanya City

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I'm genuinely perplexed by the positive reviews - they must have extremely low standards. ||||I have stayed in 2* hotels in Greece that have been more enjoyable than this poor excuse for a 'resort'. ||||The staff are extremely unhelpful and often rude when you try your hardest to communicate with them. None of them speak anything other than Chinese, and even when the Chinese translator was sent in to try and rectify all of our issues, they didn't do a thing about it and feigned ignorance. ||||The food and hygiene is so bad that everyone was sick with food poisoning for the whole trip. Even pointing to the pictures in the menu was fruitless, they'd bring the wrong food out; that's if they brought anything at all. They had a wonderful habit of not bringing you anything if they didn't have it, instead of telling you to choose something else. This turned out to be a good thing though, I ended up wishing that my food didn't arrive to spare me the agony of food poisoning. ||||The toilets smell strongly of urine, along with the hallway carpet. I don't know about anyone else, but I object to being seen or heard while I'm using the loo; the toilets in the room have huge gaps at the top of the door & it's all made of glass. So if you're sharing a room, you'll be enjoying hearing their explosive bowels (from the bad food) while you're laying in bed. Not my idea of an acceptable room layout at all. ||||There are no towels by the pool (and not enough sun loungers anyway) so you have to use the ones from your room. Which rarely get replaced with fresh ones. ||||The wifi is ridiculous, you can only get it in the lobby and even then it rarely works. ||||The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. We were trapped in this hellhole of a hotel that was making us extremely ill, and were unable to eat elsewhere because it was too far to go in a taxi everyday. The last thing you want when you have sickness and diarrhoea is a 40 minute cab journey into town. ||||The only positive thing about this hotel is the lady in the shop. She didn't understand English, but tried hard to help you and served you with a smile. If you're unfortunate enough to end up in this dump, you'll be spending a lot of time in the shop buying up all their Coke and Pringles so that you don't die from malnutrition.||||I arrived here weighing 125lbs. I left weighing 115lbs and suffering from severe stomach cramps, dehydration and felt weak. We're extremely fortunate that we had a doctor with us who had to give us all strong antibiotics to stop us from ending up in hospital. That's not even a slight exaggeration. ||||DO NOT stay here. If I was given an all expenses paid trip to this hotel, I would give it to my worst enemy. And even then, I'd feel bad about potentially killing them by sending...

I was very pleased with this hotel! Having travelled around China for about 8 months, I've stayed in several different types of hotels, from budget to classy, but this hotel is at the top of my list. Though pricey (I came during the Chinese May holiday), I felt that it was worth it. The rooms are amazing, modern and very clean (which is hard to find in many Chinese hotels) Amazingly, the beds are soft - again something you rarely find in China - so that was a really nice and unexpected touch. I opted for the "Garden View Room" which gave me a great view of construction and the airport! However, as I wasn't at the hotel for the view, this didn't bother me in the slightest! Everything about the room was great for me!||||The hotel itself is very grand and aesthetically pleasing. Of course this is China so you can't escape the smoking indoors, the spitting and other cultural aspects, but as this is China, I didn't expect those things would just disappear. There are a few restaurants in the hotel: a breakfast buffet and two lunch/dinner restaurants. As with other comments I've read, make sure you hit up the breakfast buffet and get as much as you can because the other two restaurants are pricey and I didn't find their food to be all that appealing. I snuck out breads in my bag with me from the breakfast buffet to serve as my lunch - the staff don't like food being taken out and will apparently stop you, so I did this discretely. The breakfast itself was basic but good. Lots of breads, cereal, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage as well as more traditional Chinese breakfast items like rice and noodles and soups. Appealing to all tastes I think.||||The one thing I didn't like about this hotel was how far it was from everything. To get anywhere you had to take a taxi because it was way too far of a walk. But as that is my only real complaint about this hotel, that isn't saying much!! The pool was nice, but not very deep and was ruled mostly by the children! I didn't much care for I spent my time on the deck catching the sun on one of the few poolside chairs. Be aware, there are about 12-14 deck chairs in this entire 300+ room hotel. It wasn't crowded when I was here, so I never had to worry, but I can foresee issues if there are too many people and not enough deck chairs!||||All in all, great hotel to spend a few days of relaxation poolside! Stayed with two friends on a girls getaway. The only good thing about this hotel is the convenience to the beach, which is clean and quiet. The hotel itself was also very quiet with very few guests. The front desk assistants didn’t even greet us when we arrived, just shouted to hand over our passports. We booked deluxe suites and it had such a bad smell so we asked to be changed to non-smoking rooms. They changed us to a “ladies only non-smoking” floor but the rooms were below standard with smelly sheets, moldy showers, very dirty bathrooms and floors that you couldn’t walk on barefoot. The hotel pool was closed and all facilities including the restaurants were too. We were woken up at 1am to the hotel room phone ringing and the front desk assistants saying our codes had changed yellow and we all have to quarantine. They insisted that we come downstairs and head off to a quarantine facility. We refused as all of our codes were green and we have all been tested every single day since Jan 2022! The next day, after chilling at the beach, we wander back to the hotel and they run to us yelling for us to put our masks on, while we are dripping wet and clearly getting ready to change and there was not a soul in sight so the aggressive covid protocol was unnecessary, uncalled for and accusatory. The hotel staff were clearly very paranoid to have foreign guests. Given that we were some of the only guests booked in, they made us feel very unwelcome. We understand that Sanya has had a recent outbreak and hotels are cautious, but we had no problems at other hotels during our stay on the island.
